    Petrol vs Diesel

Life can never get so bad, that you have to drive a Prius, can you not walk/run/roller-skate?! The missus had one for two weeks as a swap when someone went on their hols and wanted to borrow her car - God what a miserable car the Prius is. And now it's deemed to be worse to the planet than...

    Petrol vs Diesel

Been out today looking at a new company car for the wife. Has to be a small one, as bless her, she doesn't like driving a big car and parking aids don't help. Looked at getting her another Golf TDI sport, facelifted, free leather, tints etc. A3, although with the impending face lift, cannot...

    Petrol vs Diesel

True, however when i bought it 7 months ago, the gap between them was just a couple of pence a litre. The issue is rip-off Britain, and if there's a way to screw the motorist, someone will! Even working with the Gap at 3.3p working on your calculations, i'm still better off by £1320 over the...

    Petrol vs Diesel

I can quite easily get over 700 miles out of it, with room to spare. My commute is 144 miles per day, so i fill up generally every 4th as the Diesel is cheaper at home. Working out manual tank to tank it ranges between 47-54mpg. With regards to the Petrol engine, i know you cannot compare...

    Petrol vs Diesel

The current car, Standard 1.9 130 B6 does 50 Mpg. Say for argument sake a 530i will if i'm lucky return 25mpg (on a manual) My commute involves a lot of sitting around on various motorways including all the worst bits on the M25. My mate sees only 22 on a 523i auto. As for the litres...

    Petrol vs Diesel

Diesel is a by-product of Petroleum production, it gives them something to do with it; it costs them F*ck all to produce. There are a couple of reasons to the cost differences. 1. The UK always lagged behind europe in the 90's in converting to Derv, so the oil companies shut down some...

What fuel economy do you get?

My daily commute (72 miles e/w) is spread over the M20, M26, M25 & M3, with about 10 miles of A roads. Going to work i average a true 53-54mpg (DIS 60-64). At the weekend it drops to mid 40's. A4 B6 130

    Biofuel in the 1Z

VAG states bio-diesel compatibility only from 1996, but not for the latest 2L tdi's. As for SVO maybe a blend although the jury is out on the long-term issues regarding that. I'm looking to twin-tank the A4 (B6 130) very soon, with the amount of mileage i cover i'll break even in 6 months.

Hi, Does anyone know whether the standard 16" wheels will accomodate 312mm discs? I'm looking at using the 312mm carrier from Vag Parts.

    Increase power maybe turbo

Depends on how much you want to spend?

    Which Diesel Tuner?

I'd go for a bit of both, although torque is generally what your after on a diesel lump.

    Which re-map for A3 2.0 TDI??

Personally i would settle for a plug-in module and wouldn't go wild on the power increase. From what i've been led to believe the DSG box isn't the strongest (i know two people who've had them replaced), and they're not cheap!

    Which re-map for A3 2.0 TDI??

What age is the car, is it still under warranty?

    Increase power maybe turbo

To exploit the opportunities, you really need to get a decent intercooler made to keep everything cool and maximise the charge.

    Which Diesel Tuner?

I've used a Steinbauer box before, it's works great, is TUV approved. However it is quite a bit more expensive, however they are masters in this field. You could also re-map your ecu using the software VAG use. I know a company that can do both, and i've used them for the past 12 years or so...

How often do you change your oil?

I drive a 2001 B6 1.9 130 I change mine as per the manual, every 10K which is roughly every 13 weeks! Generally use Rock Oil or equivalent spec.

Anyone used Steinbauer tuning box ?

I used to have a Steinbauer box on my Saab 9-3, found it to be absolutely brilliant. Loads of increased power, and a nice spread of torque. I'm trying to see whether Steinbauer will do a trade against one for the A4. If i drove the car lightly would see an increase in full economy, if i caned...
