Did I ruin my VVT or have I got my cam timing wrong?

Thanks again Stuart I haven't had any codes for timing, just the knock sensor one. So would it bring up a code immediately? Indeed, Bill's statement left me with a lump in my throat as it seems very possible to be a result of the head, but I'm really surprised at how much torque is lost from...

Did I ruin my VVT or have I got my cam timing wrong?

Hopefully this shows it's correct? And hopefully it's clear enough if zoomed in a little... I've outlined where the valleys in the sprockets are as well as the corresponding rollers and where I think number 1 roller is as like in the workshop manual, and rosstech diagrams, 1 is to the left of...

Did I ruin my VVT or have I got my cam timing wrong?

Thanks, it shows how close it can be although I can see on yours how much more compressed the tensioner is than normal at TDC This was an image from google, not my head, sorry if it caused confusion, it was just to illustrate the height of the tensioner. Yeah, this image looks miles out yet...

Did I ruin my VVT or have I got my cam timing wrong?

Ah wow, thanks for all the replies, I thought I'd subscribed to my thread but I didn't get any notifications! Thanks for everyone's input, it's super helpful as I'm really struggling with this. There are some developments however, the more profound lack of power was down to the knock sensor...

Did I ruin my VVT or have I got my cam timing wrong?

Oops, the image I was referring to in my OP was this one and it's about the same, not any higher like I mentioned (different pic originally)

Did I ruin my VVT or have I got my cam timing wrong?

I read this too this afternoon as I hoped it would bring up an engine light, but nothing showed up on the dash. I haven't scanned for codes as I didn't have my laptop but I will asap, someone on another forum said it may not bring up a code all the time but I imagine 1000s of unexpected hall...

Did I ruin my VVT or have I got my cam timing wrong?

I've just found this, a lucky shot that I took earlier without realising it's usefulness! Obviously in the picture the ex cam isn't at TDC but can you see how if at TDC, the inlet cam notch would be passed the arrow but If the tensioner was all the way up, the inlet cam would pull in to the...

Did I ruin my VVT or have I got my cam timing wrong?

After a crack developed in my head (2001 AMK S3) I found a suitable recently re built AGU head that I was able to get at a good price to use on my car. I swapped all of the S3 components over to it today and put it all back together but I've lost loads of low down power / torque. It now seems to...

Did I break my brakes with VCDS?

Thanks, I've just bled the brakes 4 times, no air whatsoever but the pedal still feels too soft, I'm not sure what it means by run the ABS bleed program, open the front bleed nipples and pump brake pedal 10 times, does that not squirt all the fluid out and suck in loads of air? Does the pipe...

Did I break my brakes with VCDS?

Hi everyone, I was attempting to recalibrate my longitudinal acceleration sensor on my 2001 S3 and whilst logged into basic settings, instead of typing in the required group, I pressed the up arrow which triggered what I guess is the ABS bleeding sequence? It made it's noises for a bit and...

Anti-corrosion warranty results - Please post here

I'm sure there will be a freedom of information type thing where Audi will have to disclose the full doccument that states this, the rep I dealt with bought out this A4 paper printed and stapled booklet, told me it specified that they do the rest as a precaution and that he will be sure to send...

Anti-corrosion warranty results - Please post here

I was told that for any repair regarding the rails. both sides and the roof are to be painted. The entire rear panel should be painted and masked off in the door shuts and go all the way down to the cill. My roof had no rust either and the paint could have been masked under the rails but the...

Anti-corrosion warranty results - Please post here

If it's any help, the rep at Exeter Audi was happy to show me the file and made sure that a copy was passed on to the paint shop after my first repairs were badly carried out, bits of leaf under the lacquer etc, and only did one side, the Rep told me that they should do both sides and the roof...

Anti-corrosion warranty results - Please post here

Hi, yes, they paid 100% I had trouble with Truro Audi in Cornwall, the girl there seemed to think any warranty work was coming out of her wallet if you know what I mean. Had to go to Audi UK, when it was done, it was a terrible job, specks and even bits of tree / leaf in the lacquer! I took it...

Anti-corrosion warranty results - Please post here

not sure if I posted my results but to help you on your way, I had a 100% respray for one rusty roof rail, the Audi guy actually said that it is in the 'handbook' that even if only one side is rusty, both sides plus tthhe roof MUST bee painted under warranty as a preventative measure, good luck...

    '0-300' A3AH build thread

Wouldn't your new DP and manifold be useless now if you change your turbo to anything but a K04 Hybrid? Anything other than a K04 would be a complete change of direction on your build. Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it though!

    My S3 Thread

Mine did this, I thought the switch had died so took the door card off, took the plug off the switch then reattached it to find it had fixed the problem. 11 years without moving would get my joints a little corroded too I think! :) Might not be of any help but it did the trick for me. :o.k:

It's going to feel like a new car! :) Seems you're doing so much, it's a shame you're not fitting the exhaust manifold at the same time though.
