Guys, you're right. Handling aside, they do look a lot cleaner aesthetically as a 3-door. I found quite a clean looking 5-door, but it doesn't set my pulse racing, if you know what I mean. I agree also, if 5-door wanted the Golf is the car to go for.

I think I'll keep looking for a 3-door, then guys. I don't have a need for 5-door so if 3 is better handling wise I'll stick to it. By the way, anyone know whether the 2000-ish 3-door ever came with the longer rear, and split rear window? I was on Autotrader and very puzzled by this pic...

Hi, Read a review somewhere which was of the opinion that the (1996-03) 5-door A3 Quattro was not as good in the handling department as the 3-door of the same generation. Any truth to this? If so, how great is the difference and can anything be done about it (e.g. rear strut brace, etc.)...
