Just read the Bentley manual re: compressor noise. Some refrigerant shock may be heard when braking or cornering if the system is over full. Mine hasn't been opened to my knowledge but can the gas expand over time causing excess pressure?
Hi everyone - it's been a long time!
Has anybody had experience of a whirring noise when the compressor is running? This is noticeable from inside the car when it's warm and goes away when I switch to economy (compressor off).
Any ideas?
Thanks peeps
Best regards,
Steve
My A6 1.8t (98) does that. I've heard its normal. I only notice it with the bonnet open, or when the stereo is not at ear-bleed level (which is not that often...!)

It does seem like a misfire in feel. The 'breathing' noise at low revs under load is sounding very 'spitty' though. That's what made me think; 'valve'.
The car is just out of warranty, but I've been complaining of this problem since July of last year. Feeling like the dealer has...
