    1.8T Vacumn to Combi Valve

Hi there, need some help....was trying to plumb a boost guage into the vacumn line from Combi Valve which connects under Inlet Manifold....but NO VACUMN! Could someone please tell me if this line should have vacumn or boost under load as it seems to develop neither. Could be reason I get the...

    MAF De-Vein

......you guys are lucky, I doubt very much that here in South Africa you can get an exchange unit....got to buy the entire sensor and don't get anything for the "old" one....I see you guys get them cheaper too.....ours are the equivalent of about ₤ 250 +! I will check N75 and...

    MAF De-Vein

Hi Awsome......Thanks....although I have probably read a thousand posts, I must have missed yours....sorry about that and thanks.....My perception is that MAF's seem to give a huge amount of trouble, and that they are defective more often than in service.... It has been a week of...

    MAF De-Vein

Hi, Anyone know if de-veining the tube which houses the MAF would increase performance at all, and with any "side affects"?

Chip poll - Whos have you got?

Hi Guys I saw somewhere that some people remove the veins or grid from the MAF tube. Just wanted to know whether this would improve flow and if there would be any negative resultant effect. I would imagine it should improve flow drastically just by looking at how much obstruction you would be...

    Throttle Body Removal & Cleaning

Hi Guys I'd like to remove and clean my TB on a Passat 1.8T(thus longitudinally mounted engine), with Drive By Wire. The manual says to drain the coolant. Is this necessary or can one do it without as have recently had the coolant changed... Thanks

    1.8T Engine "Clatter"/Rattle

.as far as I can make out it adds oxygen to the exhaust gas just after turbo, before cat so that more of the exhaust gas can be burnt off to reduce emissions.......the rattle bugs me though cos when you pull away it sounds like I have tin cans attached to the rear bumper......just when it's cold...

    1.8T Engine "Clatter"/Rattle

Hi (Like the name, am a VW nut of note! Nope, the noise seems to be coming from the vicinity of the the vacumn pump (round silver item, looks like old fashioned mechanical type fuel pump) mounted at the rear of the engine (rear being opposite end to drive belts side). Regarding the holding...

    1.8T Engine "Clatter"/Rattle

Hi there and thanks for the reply :-) Car has done 140,000 km, has Castrol Synthetic....fairly recent service but not sure when fuel filter was replaced. I did not mention that it sometimes holds back a bit at higher revs too, and did not do this before replacing the MAF so certainly not due...

    1.8T Engine "Clatter"/Rattle

Hi guys! My Passat 1.8T's engine has had this noise since I got the car, from used, 2 years ago. I hear a sort of a clatter/rattle when I blip the throttle..... (First I thought the sound was linked to the turbo as it goes away once the engine is fully warm or the turbo is boosting, or revs...

    VAG-COM & MAF & More...

Hi Uwe Yes, I did clear the fault codes. Guess it just has to learn a bit? The aircon seems to work fairly ok, just when you set it to recirculate (to keep smoke etc out when necessary), it does not seem to seal off the car from outside.

    VAG-COM & MAF & More...

Hi there (Sebastian, this is pretty much addressed to you....oh, and just spent a lot of ZAR ((South African currency LOL)) on a HEX USB - your fault of course! Looks like a very useful "tool". 1.Replaced the previously faulty MAF and it is reading within the stated spec...and climbs as you...

Audi A4 1.8t (8E) engine swap with TT Engine

..........usually the big issue when going from a transverse to longitudinal engine is the turbo/exhaust and inlet plumbing etc. Guess fuelling will also be an issue as the locations of inlet and exhaust will be in different places....

    N75 Valve - Vag Com

I have picked up an error code on MAF (Low input voltage - or something similar...). As I have a free flow exhaust I can hear a slight stutter, kind of an ever so slight misfire, but really just a tad. If anybody has had a MAF go south, does the result sound like this, and does it also affect...

    Stutter

Hi! My Passat 1.8T (Free flow pipe, Upsolute chip) has a very slight "stutter" i.e. not enough to be called a misfire under light throttle semi loas citcumstances, plus a reluctance/feeling like it's holding back on a hot day - approx. 30 degrees C. Workshop has picked up an error code of the...

    Mass Airflow Sensor

Hi all, I have a 2002 passat 1.8T which has been chipped (Upsolute), Freeflow pipe (didn't want too much nose so went with 57mm and 2 teensy freeflow boxes), and BMC Freeflow Filter. I have picked up an error, (Air Mass Sensor, low input). I have noticed a very, (almost unnoticeable)...

Changing rear brake pads (A4 Avant)

I have a Passat (with the same system....)...I used a pair of needle-nose or long-nosed pliers...just be careful not to slip and tear the dust cover. To get things started as the piston may be tight, use a c-clamp.
