    The 170 story so far....

cool. i'm joining your 170 appreciation society. it seems to get better and better. i like the s-tronic and paddles and as you say, thewallboy, living in london makes it make sense. almost 10,000 miles in and i'm averaging 49mpg and normally get around 55 on my motorway runs.

Got 41.5mpg out of my car this weekend (pics)

Freaky! I did exactly the same journey at the weekend and got 58.6mpg in my 170 diesel. Average speed only 47 though ... i've found that sticking between 75 and 80 seems to give the best results.

Concert II to RNS-E & Bluetooth conversion

it blew out of the bottom of a citroen xsara on the m6 toll, bounced off the carriageway. i managed to miss the other bits of flying engine luckily. i'm going to only follow german cars for a while.

Concert II to RNS-E & Bluetooth conversion

i'm well impressed too ... as it's my car! car now feels complete. total dream. and it's the car's duck (donation from embarrassed son). permatan ducky made it to the back seat and although he made it through the retrofit safe and sound, he's sadly currently covered in glass dust and flakes...

A3(8P) armrest fixing - please help!

quick update on my original post ... thanks to you who pointed me in the right direction - thanks to d3fy, vagparts have located the missing retaining nut for me and have put it in the post. so i'll be removing the armrest and my custom-made nut creation in the next few days and putting the...

    Dead Pixel Advice

i'd try returning it first. it's a bit of a lottery, the dead pixel thing - the one they replace it with may be no better. most dead pixels can be massaged back to life. so if your screen develops one as it gets older, just rub the area gently with the end of your finger and chances are it'll...

A3(8P) armrest fixing - please help!

thanks, andy. as i suspected, i am missing a retaining nut which would fit into the recess i can feel underneath. i've managed to secure the bolt with a square nut and hex nut i have which fit pretty well. it feels completely solid for now - i'll see how it goes over the next few hundred miles...

A3(8P) armrest fixing - please help!

the armrest for my a3 has arrived ... i have drills, hacksaws and a fine selection of tools ready to do the job - but one thing is confusing me: how exactly does it fix??! i have the armrest, a bolt and a car. the bolt goes through the armrest and then into a hex-shaped hole in the centre...

    RNS-F...?!

thanks, craig. i've got my head around it all now i think. my feeling is that tmc for the a3/a4 will never become available in the uk ... and that way i can only be pleasantly surprised.

    RNS-F...?!

thanks for the info and link. i found some interesting pics on my travels of the shooting break concept which seems to involve good-looking next gen sat nav. all very concept at the minute. and if the RNS-E is good enough for the R8... what's the latest on TMC for the RNS-E in the UK? does...

2 Weeks Old - Engine light on already

this isn't good news. my 170 has been faultless for the 2000 odd miles i've done so far. i'm about to embark on a mini-epic and do not want to lose all power at a crucial moment on the M1... to answer your question about the glowplug light, pjlarge, mine has never stayed on for more than about...

My test drive thoughts on 170 TDI

spot on! the 170 is smoother so you don't realise you're pulling away in the same way that the 140 engine makes you really feel it. it's similar to the psychological difference being closer to the ground gives you: in my old spitfire where my **** was about 3 inches (ok, a little exaggerated)...

    iPod console

the audi offering does really fall short of what could be done. but it suits me and like a lot of things you learn to live with it and make it work for your needs. for example, i like having my itunes on random anyway as i get bored of my music fairly quickly and so it's like having your ipod...

    iPod console

with the sd slots in the navplus, the track data is displayed on the nav screen which is a good bit of progress. does anyone have ipod+satnav and able to confirm if ipod displays track info on the screen? or is it just the disappointing track1 ... track2 etc.?

    iPod console

short answer ... you don't. it only uses playlists which have to be made before you plug it in (i'm only talking about the audi fit here so other solutions may be different). you can with an ipod make an on-the-go playlist though which is a half-solution. if you only made 4 playlists for the...

    RNS-F...?!

thanks, mike. i'm definitely going for the bluetooth. it's invisible and makes complete sense. i think the skinny on the sd cards is that they will handle somehthing like 516 files (including folders/subfolders) regardless of the sd card size. nearly everything on my ipod is at 192kbps and if...

    RNS-F...?!

hi everyone. i'm considering retrofitting the rns-e to my a3. i've searched high and low on the www for straightforward reviews of the unit and for once the www has let me down!! what are your views on the unit? my reservations are mainly that a) it isn't touchscreen and b) to listen...

    iPod console

the nice thing about it when factory ordered is that it has its own section in the glovebox where it's solid and powered. (there's even an audi logo screen which appears on it although this struck me as a little stupid as you can't really see the screen unless you look at it carefully from an...
