You can do it all from above, but may be restricted by cable lengths.
Remove battery and battery tray.
There two small bolts towards front panel that hold the controller from above.
This video shows another way of getting to it.

I went for a Febi aftermarket part. I think it came from Amazon.
Sorry, I did also replace the radiator temperature sensor. I believe this was either Febi or Meyle.
Both were very easy to replace. Perhaps replace the cheapest of the two parts first and go from there.
Sounds like an issue with fan controller relay under the battery tray: 1J0919506K
I bought a new Febi unit after having continued issues with a 'good' used unit.
Fixed after run pump and radiator fan issues for me. I did have AC issues too, but haven't had a regas to know if the controller...
Bump - Has anyone else experienced the same symptoms as @Alex C ?
I read one theory that the control module cuts off power to the pump if it detects an issue. I.e. too much resistance. Any truth in that?
Thanks
Many thanks @desertstorm
So if I'm not experiencing 'many other issues', you don't think replacing the '411' relay is likely to help with the pump? Or have I misunderstood you?
I have a parasitic drain that I haven't been able to find the source of...
Thank you for that. I should have said that the fan controller you mention has already been replaced (used part). The fans appeared to run correctly both before and after changing that. The after run pump seemed better after changing the fuse box on top of the battery.
(I had wondered if some...
Thanks @s3mad_dude
The pump that's fitted is a Bosch, fitted about six years ago. Runs at a good speed when wired directly off the battery.
I recently purchased another Bosch pump. Went for a short drive and when I got back I plugged the electrical connection on to the new pump (while in my...
Hi,
The pump not running after every journey. It runs fine when connected directly to battery. Appears to have a low voltage when connector is tested with multimeter. How should I go about testing further? I've purchased a new pump but no change.
Does anyone have any pictures or diagrams of...
I've got them with Bilstein B8s and H&R springs.
For me they did add some noticeable harshness. However they have lasted. Although the bearings may take more abuse??
I wasn't impressed with the Leon Cupra R top mounts as the be gap appeared after a relatively short time, but they were less harsh.
Thank you @<tuffty/>, I'll save them for later. Looks a good price for the compressor. Happy with quality etc.?
Did both items come with seals etc.? If I got the system de-gassed is the swap straight forward enough? I'm no mechanic, but happy to have a go at relatively simple removal and...
I know this is an old thread, but hopefully someone can shed some light...
I'm trying to get to the bottom of my lack of air con. So far I have had a regas. The guy that refilled said that the system wasn't empty, so I presume there are no leaks. So far, I have replaced the fuse holder on top...
