    A/C Compressor Broken?

E-bay pic but same model - stick a couple of jumper wires in the circled connector? Are the coils diode protected - so if it doesn't work swap the poles at the battery and try again.

    A/C Compressor Broken?

Hi, Car a/c isn't working so had the refrigerant checked and all ok, full and holding pressure. Was suggested the pressure switch might be at fault so tried jumping the connector (2 pin socket) and no change. Both fans come on at low speed when the a/c is turned on in the cabin and the two-pin...

Replaced Clockspring - ESP Light on

Hello, Had an issue with my Air Bag light not extinguishing, local garage read the fault code 00588 air bag igniter/squib ring. Replaced it this morning with a second-hand one and reset the fault code using VCDS Lite, ESP light is now on and giving: Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels: None...

    What have you done today?

Have now got a fully working rear wash wipe. Pushing the washer stalk resulted in a puddle under the engine, reconnected the pipe under the black trunking behind the air-box. Sense of achievement rapidly disappeared as a pool of washer fluid rapidly appeared behind the rear wheel. Took out the...

    What have you done today?

Replaced the clockspring and made the airbag light go out. Yay! Have replaced it with the ESP light instead. Boo! VCDS Lite says 00778 incorrect or no basic settings at least the light is orange and not red.

    Airbag light/clockspring testing

They're self contained as far as the ignition/charge part, only needs a tiny amount of electricity to blow them.

    Airbag light/clockspring testing

cheers for the warnings - wasn't planning on testing the airbag unit, have read that the voltage from a volt meter is enough to set them off. It's not something I've removed before so going to be very cautious, it'll be going in the boot. Had also read that it's possible to damage the SRS...

    Airbag light/clockspring testing

Hi, Car (1.8 n/a 2001 APG engine) has had the airbag light on since I bought it, only have a basic ODB code reader so took it in and had it read using auto-com: 2 faults Restraints Airbag - Airbag 7 00588 Airbag squib circuit driver Too high impedance permanent and...

    PCV Valve? Hose replacement.

Seems it's not fixed - another weekend of hunting vaccum leaks.

    PCV Valve? Hose replacement.

Wasn't able to trim the split sections and rejoin, the pipe was too old, hard and brittle. Got some 10mm ID fuel pipe and after much heating and swearing was able to push the Audi fittings in and re-create the vac pipe. Took it for a drive and the hesitant acceleration is gone along with the...

    Refitting lower dash panel

top clips/springs on mine - still not fixed but I've left it as it is. Slid the white clips in first then stretched and bent it to get it in by the fuses then screws.

    PCV Valve? Hose replacement.

quite right - brake booster OD was 13mm ID was 9.5mm. Was split beyond the valve and is very hard/brittle hoping a hairdryer will soften it bit to get the valve back in and found a length of fuel pipe with a very similar ID that will replace the damaged parts. Fingers crossed this is the vac...

    PCV Valve? Hose replacement.

I'll measure the pipe tomorrow when it's light and trace both ends - don't want to loose braking.

    PCV Valve? Hose replacement.

Think this is the PCV - between engine and bulkhead on an APG 1.8 non-turbo: The hoses either side of the valve are split and brittle, i'm hoping the trim the damage from the hose ends as a temp fix but does anyone know the internal diameter of the hoses so I can order some silicone...

    Thermostat change

Different alternator mounting? When I tried last weekend I could get to the top bolt but not the lower - do they all have the allen head centre? Also found that the oil filler adapter has snapped and is held in place by the engine cover, will the filler cap fit straight into the cam cover?

    Hello from an Audi Newbie

No plans to modify - form what I've read there isn't much you can do the the APG engine. Jut planning to get the car running as well as it can, got to replace the thermostat, aux belt, a couple of the oil breather pipes, headlights etc...

    Thermostat change

Hi, Bought a 2001 A3 with the 1.8 APG (the least fun) engine, needs the thermostat replacing amongst other things. Have found lots of guides covering the 1.8T engines but nothing for the APG variant, looks very similar so not too concerned but access is more restricted. Has anyone with an APG...
