Window trim and sunroof edge crumbling.. easy to replace?

Hi.. I've noticed that the trim under the windows (the black strip that the it seals against) and the black rubbery edge to the sunroof is not in a good state. It's dried out and cracking on the edges, and bits come off when polishing the car (microfibre cloth picks them up). I guess the...

    Oil Capacity for 2.8 V6 30V Quattro....

I let it stand for about 2 hours, as I had to go and buy some more oil (in a different car). Re-checked when I came back and it hadn't moved. It certainly took 6.25 litres. Looking at my handbook, a lot of it seems to be for the 2.6 and not the 2.8, so maybe they increased the oil sump...

Battery removed, alarm now active, no remote to disarm :(

Took the alarm guy about 3 minutes to disable it!! He reckoned someone who knew what they were doing and didn't care about damaging panels could do it in 1 minute. It's now stripped out, and a decent CAT1 alarm installed.... now have remote central locking Cheers, Jon

    Oil Capacity for 2.8 V6 30V Quattro....

The manual states approx 5.0 litres for the 2.8 V6 Quattro.... Just done an oil/filter change on mine. Put in 5 litres and it was just touching the bottom of the orange bit on the dipstick. Took another 1.25 litres to get it to just under the MAX mark. I know it says approx 5.0 litres, but...

Hunting idle since battery removed / alarm installed...

They're called Naze Lane Garage, on Naze Lane, Freckleton (other side of Preston). It's a reasonable sized garage, room for about 4 or 5 cars at a time, seem to know their stuff. Car is still running fine I'd spent 2 days at the weekend with the Claybar and polish, and it was looking mint...

Hunting idle since battery removed / alarm installed...

Hi... I do have VAG-COM, but I need to learn how to use it properly... Removed the battery this morning, gave it an hour (charged the battery too), and did as advised.... didn't make a difference. Went for a good drive, still hunting. Took it to my local Audi specialist (independant), he...

Hunting idle since battery removed / alarm installed...

Here's the story..... Took battery and tray out to remove blockage from drain plug, re-fitted battery and alarm/immobiliser kicked in. Didn't have a remote for the alarm, so today had installer come and remove it and fit a Cobra Cat 1 system. All seemed well, car now starts!! Problem is...

Battery removed, alarm now active, no remote to disarm :(

Hi, thanks. It looks like it's possibly dealer fit, as it's on top of the standard built in immobiliser/alarm (that chirps the horn when you lock the doors). I'll certainly be trying to get the garage to pay towards getting it sorted... Thanks, Jon

Battery removed, alarm now active, no remote to disarm :(

Thanks... Phoned a couple of local installers today and it sounded like it'd be towards the end of the week before they could fit me in.... At least it's in my garage, and gives me a chance to polish it properly Cheers, Jon

Battery removed, alarm now active, no remote to disarm :(

Hi... Yes the car's immobilised. When I turn the key all the lights come on but the engine won't turn over. The car's a 1997 (manufactured 06/97). The key is just a 'traditional' key with a button press for a small light. No remote. There's a small transceiver chip (capsule looking...

Battery removed, alarm now active, no remote to disarm :(

Mine's the facelift model (2.8 30V). My local Audi dealer hourly rate is huge... I'd gone in for a new key and they said £45 for the key, plus half an hour to code it which they wanted to charge £55+VAT !!! I was going to fit one of those remote upgrade kits from VAGParts, so I'm pretty...

Battery removed, alarm now active, no remote to disarm :(

At least the new Alarm/Immobiliser route I get a certified alarm with remote central locking.... Getting tired of using the key Thanks, Jon

Battery removed, alarm now active, no remote to disarm :(

No, there's just one red LED on the dashboard. Locking and unlocking with the key has no effect on it. Guess that means it's not a factory fit. Looks like I've no choice but to call someone out on Monday and get a new alarm installed. Thanks, Jon

Battery removed, alarm now active, no remote to disarm :(

REALLY pi$$ed off now... Spent all day in my garage with the clay bar cleaning my car (looks good). Finished that, took the battery out to clean the blocked drain hole beneath it, and on re-fitting the battery the alarm/immobiliser armed itself (as they do). Problem is, the useless waste of...

Water under battery tray & brake master cylinder....

I was just washing my car and when I lifted the engine lid I noticed a load of water (about 3 litres!!). It was under the battery tray, brake master cylinder and around where the coolant hoses go to the heater matrix (about half an inch deep). Took about half an hour to sponge it all out...

    1997 Audi A4 2.8Q - advice needed

Good to know!! I was about to order all new suspension etc... but after realising I'm not going to see any change from £1500 (shocks, springs, ARB, front suspension arms, rear bushes & fitting), I've decided to wait a while... Add to that £700 for some new wheels, £150 for discs/pads and...
