My wife's away at her sister's at the moment with the A6 so I haven't had chance to check. Could you say more about the oil level thing? The car was only serviced a couple of months ago and I haven't topped up since. Can oiled plugs result from overfilling with oil? The plugs didn't look as if...
Quick update: A very helpful chap at GSF advised only replacing the plugs in the first instance. Did that - problem all sorted! What was disconcerting though was that all the spark plug 'tubes' (ie where the leads fit) were full of oil. No idea when the plugs were last changed so not sure how...
Thanks for the MAF thought Andy. I had that replaced a while back but wasnt the problem. I feel Im getting warmer though...
Latest is that I tried to use VCDS (latest version) to log misfires, but channels 14, 15 and 16 didnt have anything to do with misfires as per the manual. I managed...
Thanks for the replies! Apologies for not replying sooner - been away for a family birthday up north. Lots to work on this coming weekend - I do have VAG-COM (or VCDS as they call it now) so I'll RTFM and work out how to log misfires. If I can confirm that then hopefully just a matter of...
Thanks for taking the trouble to find that link Andy - really appreciate it. Bit of a long shot but I'll try to get in touch with the OP and see if he fixed the problem. If this doesn't work, following your comments I think I'll change plugs/leads and coil for starters - hopefully not too much...
I've recommended Billion in the past (http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=7236) based on a PC Pro review. (I'm lucky enough to have CAT 5e cabling throughout my house.)
I use the WDTVLIVE...
Hi Folks
Id be grateful if anyone has any ideas about the following problem with my 1998 A6 2.8 Q tip saloon: When Im driving along at a lowish speed (below about 60 mph) and a high gear and press the accelerator to increase the engine revs (for example to keep at the same speed when...
Hi Folks
Grateful for any help with a problem on my 1998 A6 2.8Q tip saloon: On a couple of occasions after a long run the engine has cut out when slowing down to a crawl (eg for a slow manoeuvre like a tight corner). The engine starts again no problem after cutting out.
Car is regularly...
Thanks Max. I'm pretty sure it isn't transmission. I had the fluid changed last year after a scare that I'm sure is linked to this problem in a roundabout way: I was in tip mode and changed down to second to slow the car on a steep hill and there was a MASSIVE bang! Well, my wife and I thought...
Hi Everyone!
My 1998 2.8Q Tip runs very nicely apart from a problem that has only started since a recent service. When I accelerate under modest load (nothing harsh speeding up when passing in to a 60 zone from a 40 zone for example, when the car is already in a high gear and with a couple...
Is there a 3.2 L?? There's a 4.2...
I guess folks will want to know transmision type, saloon or avant, 2wd or quattro (if it's not the 4.2, which only comes as quattro) etc.
Cheers - Graham
Hi Neil
Late reply I'm afraid - been away for the weekend so only just read your post. I've had a couple of A6s with Tiptronic boxes - neither have failed but on my first A6 (a 2.4 SE) the gear changes between 3rd and 4th, and between 4th and 5th were jerky at times, almost like the change...
