s3 written off :( see ya.

Graham, just stumbled across this thread again. When I bought the car from Audi in 2009 it had a factory fitted discreet tow bar, the swan neck was in the boot. Shortly after buying it from Audi I discovered it had a Revo map, which I removed as it was too aggressive, plus it was under Audi...

s3 written off :( see ya.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but this was my old car! I purchased it from Coventry Audi back in 2009 as an approved used car and then sold it to a chap from Stratford upon Avon. Original plate was SB51Y**. Glad to see it found its way back to the forum, but gutted to find out it has been...

    A3 went pop :(

My money would be on a boost pipe as well, same symptoms as when mine went. Chris

210 vs 225 (sorry if this has been asked before)

It is a pre-facelift car that has had the rear lights and badge swapped for facelift ones. Personally I would be wanting to know answers to all the questions that superkarl mentioned above and more. As I am sure you are aware these cars are getting to the age now where in order to keep them in...

Buying an S3 THIS WEEK! *Fingers Crossed!* But Which One?!

2001 on a Y would be AMK, my old S3 was a late 2001 '51' reg and that was AMK, when I was looking I went and looked at a 2002 '51' reg and that was a BAM. From the brief research I did, this is the earliest the BAM engine was available. I found the majority of BAM engined cars are '02' reg...

    MUSH Developments` S3

Those wheels are a Votex Audi accessory wheel for the MK1 TT's, part number should be 8N0 071 498 666, quite expensive new, think they are in region of £350 - £400 per wheel new from Audi. I nearly bought a brand new set of four on that were on ebay last year for £350, but could not make my up...

Pic's of your Alloys please..To give me some idea's of what to get.

My Old S3 with genuine 18" RSTT, not the most exciting wheel, but they did only cost me £200 for a whole set with tyres, which wasn't too bad! Chris

    sensible daily?

Just to add, had a quick look on autotrader and found a Skoda Superb TDI for less than £2k def comfy and economical....however it has done 366,000 miles!! Perhaps a tad too many miles, link below.... 2003 SKODA Superb 1.9 TDi PD 130 Comfort

    sensible daily?

Personally I would go diesel, there are some cheap petrol cars out there, but small ultra frugal petrols are likely to be slow, not much fun or comfortable for a 50-60 mile daily commute. Personally I would go VAG group....however you won't get as much for your money when compared to say...

Invoice for my boss's new car...

Nice, don't think I have seen Meteor S3 Black Edition in the flesh. Can't believe the price of GAP insurance though £899, he could have saved at least half of that if he shopped around....I guess its not an issue though if the company is picking up the bill! Chris

    High mileage s3 advice?

As others have said buy on condition and service history, if it has mostly been motorway miles then that is certainly better than something thats done 50k hard miles being driven round town. Get the reg/chassis number and give the dealers who have carried out the services a call just to check...

Anyone considered giving up the S3 due to rising fuel costs?

I sold my MK5 TDI Golf a few years ago to scratch the 'S3 itch' that I had. I loved every second of S3 ownership, but I sold up last July due to the increased running costs and bought another MK5 TDI! I do really regret getting rid of the S3, but the way fuel prices are now, I'm kind of glad I...

Latest performance mod!! S3 8L Westfalia detachable towbar install

Nice write up, and a good step by step on the rear bumper removal, my old S3 had a factory tow bar fitted, very similar to your set up, thankfully it looked like it had seen very little use, apparently the original owner specced it tow a jet ski with! Chris

    Tyre Opinions/Advice

I am currently running Michelin Pilot Sport Primacy's (205/55/16) on my golf and rate them highly. I had Michelin PS2's on my S3 and they were brilliant. They wear well, I find grip in both the wet and dry very good and mine were less than £80 per corner fitted too. Chris

    Knackered clutch or blown turbo?

No worries mate, I had mine fixed by my specialist, when I realised how fairly straight forward it was I could have quite easily done it myself, but was happy to pay as it was a lot cheaper than a new clutch/turbo! From memory a new boost pipe was approx £30, I cant quite remember how much I was...

    Knackered clutch or blown turbo?

Hi mate, Have you checked all the boost pipes?? I have had one come off and the results were similar, sounded rough and would not drive at very far at all, I thought it was the clutch or turbo at first, but for once it turned out to be a smaller bill than I had expected! Chris

    173k mile 8P S3....

This might not be of much interest but I was looking on mobile.de (the german equivalent of autotrader) earlier and came across an 8P S3 that had done 280,000km, which is about 173,000 miles, I have posted a link to the advert below. At first I thought it must be wrong, but looking at the...

    DECIDED ON NEW STEERING WHEEL

Not to my taste, but each to their own, have you considered an OEM alcantara one like the B5 RS4. You can use your current airbag and just swap the wheel over. I know they are not to everyones taste, personally I really like them, there is a few on ebay at the moment and there is a link below...
