I am getting a similar sound when Aircon compressor is running. I am no mechanical genius but a couple of people I have spoken to have seem to think the bearings on the aircon pump are worn. Just had a new belt and tensioner fitted so I know it isn't them. Let me know how you get on.

Having just purchased an A4 1.8SE on a 98S, on Saturday, I need/would like a couple of bits. The ciggie lighter is missing, where can I get a cheap one? Can I, and if so, how easy is it, to retro-fit a centre armrest? Also my Drivers Info System has a tendancy to fade out around the middle...
