    striped down tip today

Have a look at the little pipe coming out and bending 90deg and going onto 'y-shaped' valve under the inlet manifold. Mine had pretty much snapped. Replaced this all the others including the big one in your photos with Forge silicon and made a huge difference.

    S3 Alarm prob

all quiet now! removed the alarm horn which was buzzing to itself so pretty sure this was the cause of the problem. Rear light off the only way to get at it as far as I can see please can my car now behave for a few months!!!

    PCV "Hockey puck" pipework.

I've just done the entire system with Forge Silicon, including the big pipe going down to the turbo...thread coming later the car is a completely different vehicle, so much more power, hesitation and slight bumpiness in the revs gone, lovely sound go for Forge silicon for them all if you ask...

    Like hitting a brick wall........

I posted a thread a while ago with similar problem. My brick wall happens intermittently at exactly 2000rpm when the car bounces down the road!!!! When not hesitating/misfiring it flies, just to remind me what the car used to be like all the time! Maybe a coincidence but mine seemed to start...

i want to buy this vag com vcds diagnostic tool with lead any reccomendations??

HI NHN, I am looking to get VCDS set up but a bit confused about the options available. eg. £10 ebay cable and free VCDS lite software vs £250 cable and full latest software. Could I reset throttle body alligment on 2003 S3 with cheap cable and VCDS lite for example (first job i need to...

really really crap MPG + flickering xenons

definately start with thermostat / temp sender - if your temp on gauge is only showing 60deg I'm sure one or both of those two bits are playing up and affecting the fuel usage. Mine wasn't that bad when I changed them and I noticed a difference straight away.

really really crap MPG + flickering xenons

haha - they have a funny way of doing that...after a long time behaving itself perfectly, mine developed an awkward misfire, faulty MAF, temp sender and thermostat days after i got it back from bodyshop after £100's of cosmetic work being completed! At least it's got a sense of humour!! oh...

really really crap MPG + flickering xenons

I think it does matter because your ECU thinks your engine is cold so keeps the mix rich. Even in warm air temp the car runs a little richer when it's first started doesn't it? I've recently had the same issue with 60deg on temp gauge and did temp sender and thermostat at the same time. Makes...

Oil Catch Can mini group buy anyone? including PCV system simplification.

hi, any chance you could explain the problems you're getting with the PCV system. I'm trying to diganose a misfire at the moment and this is one area I'm looking at as some of the pipes feel really soggy around there. Cheers

    S3 BAM - FAULT CODE P1297 - Intermittent Misfire at 2000RPM

Thought I'd add, on a positive note, once out of misfire territory the car is flying with all the new electrical bits! The old Air Mass meter, while not the direct cause of the misfire was giving bumpy power and the plugs had obviously been in there some time so it's not all bad if upgrading...

    S3 BAM - FAULT CODE P1297 - Intermittent Misfire at 2000RPM

Thanks a lot for that link - definately feels like it's the right area and I need to check more pipework next. Some of the pipes around the N249 feel very soft. Particularly the one going into the flying saucer thingy. (cylinder block pressure reg valve i think????) Do you think this pipe...

Yep - clear the code, once it's misfired the error code is back. No others just P1297.

    S3 BAM - FAULT CODE P1297 - Intermittent Misfire at 2000RPM

Cheers - I'll get onto that and see what I can find. Wouldn't a boost leak be worse at high load though? It revs straight through with no hesitation once it's passed 2000rpm!! I'll start searching for leaks next - thanks for the advice Has anyone had problems with N249 with similar...

    S3 BAM - FAULT CODE P1297 - Intermittent Misfire at 2000RPM

OK - I changed the plugs for Audi OEM / NGK plugs and unfortunately the problem is still there. I also looked at the coilpack wiring while I was at it which looks fine. Not sure where to go next, my list over last month is now: - New OEM Thermostat and temp sender (temp gauge was at...

    S3 BAM - FAULT CODE P1297 - Intermittent Misfire at 2000RPM

Spark plugs not been changed for a few years - I'll go there next. Coilpack wiring not been fully explored but looks ok from the front. I'll take a better look tomorrow. I had ruled those out as its fine under load but maybe I've been missing the obvious there. THANKS
