    ABS sensor removal

Excellent info - thanks very much. I'll have a go tomorrow. If the problem still occurs with the sensors clean, I'd suspect the toothed ring. On another car I had the ring cracked and so was a 'C' shape as opposed to 'O' shape. The gap caused the ABS to kick in at low speeds. Can be fixed by...

    ABS & driveshaft removal - B5 quattro

How do I remove/access the ABS sensors and toothed sensor ring? Do I have to remove the drive shaft? If so how do I do that? Is it just the large bolt behind the wheel centre cap, and the 6 (?) driveshaft flange bolts? What torque do I redo the driveshaft end bolt up to, and is either side a LH...

    ABS cutting in

Cheers, but it's definitely the ABS. With the ABS unit disconnected it doesn't happen. Top suspect at the moment is a cracked reluctor ring. I've had this before with similar symptoms (different car) - although it did it all the time coming to the end of a stop, not just turning left.

    ABS sensor removal

Ouch! Thanks John. the car's been used extensively over winter in Europe and I'm discovering that nothing comes undone/off/out with ease. I'll expect a struggle then...

    ABS sensor removal

Sorry diesel-fiends - this is not exaclty 'diesel' related - but I'm not getting much response on the B5 forum and I need to tear the car apart at the weekend... How do I remove/access the ABS sensors and toothed sensor ring? Do I have to remove the drive shaft? If so how do I do that? Is it...

Better running with different MAF sensor?

Removed mine at the w/e to clean it - it's a Pierburg. Having cleaned it (just by squirting lots of contact cleaner through the gauze on to the sensor) car is possibly more responsive, but more noticably doesn't cut the turbo over 3k rpm which it occasionally used to. Didn't notice any torx...

    A4 Key Question?

My '97 A4's got the conventional type key with light. I just bought 2x keys from Audi for about £120 inc., then had to have them coded for another £32.50. My car's got remote c/l but from the dealer fit Conlog alarm, not the key.

    ABS sensor removal

Following on from my previous post, I'd like to clean the ABS sensors and check the air gap to the toothed reluctor ring. How do I remove the ABS sensors? They seem intergral with the hub carrier! Can I get to the toothed reluctor ring without removing the driveshaft? Thanks.

    ABS cutting in

Hi, my ABS seems to cut in under gentle or firm braking - but get this - ONLY when turning left (however gently)! The classic scenario is pulling up at a roundabout, or a T-junction to turn left. The pedal will 'pump' what feels like once a wheel revolution or so - not a constant grumble...

    B5 - B6 suspension upgrade

Anyone know whether B6 quattro shocks and springs will fit a B5 quattro? They 'look' similar! Cheers.

    quattro MOT

I've got the same problem and suspect the same thing (though the failure and use of 2WD rollers are I guess unrelated...).

    quattro MOT

Can my '97 1.9 tdi quattro undergo the normal MOT roller brake test? Or does the quattro system get damaged using the rollers? Thanks...

A6 engine transplant 1.9tdi to 2.5tdi? Help plz

AFAIK up to about 2000 all V6 tdis were 150bhp. You're best bet must be a whole donor car from around the same year as yours. You could start needing a subframe, shocks, brakes, driveshafts, exhaust - I don't know but all these things could be different for the bigger, torquier V6. If yours...

    No blow

Hey all, on a '97 A4 1.9Tdi: On two or three occasions I have noticed the following (really since the weather was hot): 1) Following a motorway run, come off the motorway then accelerate away from the exit roundabout, car very underpowered. Feels like there is no boost. 2) If I pull...

    Cam belt replacement

[ QUOTE ] have to take the whole front end of the car off [/ QUOTE ] That's the part that put me off doing it DIY. If you're happy with removing the front end, I'd suggest getting a kit rather than buying parts separately, then you (ought to) get belt, tensioner, water pump & maybe even...

    A4 19. TDI Flat spot

I think that pipe's the brake assist pipe. Presumably a leak there would affect the vacuum/boost which actuates the EGR and turbo control valves. Or something...

    Advice needed for buying TDI

I've just bought a 130k mile 1997 1.9 TDi quattro. It's an expensive car for the year and miles, but there seems to be a strong following and they've got a good reputation for robustness and longevity. You pay more for a diesel than an equivalent petrol, but you should make up for that with...

    Clutch pedal vibration

Hi, new owner here... On my 130k mile '97 A4 tdi quattro the clutch bites very high up the pedal travel, and when I rest my foot firmly on the pedal, or depress the pedal, the pedal vibrates in time with engine speed. When the clutch is engaged there is no vibration. There is no vibration when...

How much to pay for a cambelt change?

Germania in Newport are doing mine ('97 A4) for £300 + vat. It wasn't the cheapest quote, but they gave me the best impression of knowing what was invloved. Job includes belt, tensioner and water pump.
