    Northern meet

Anyone interested in meeting up on the 22nd June? We're organising a get together at the Whitehouse above Littleborough just off J21 of the M62. It's the venue for the old RS246.com and Audi SRS meets, we thought it would be nice to get a few cars together for old times sake. kicking off about...

S4 - How many miles to a tank do you get

Holy Thread Resurrection Batman !! Just filled my B8 S4 as the fuel warning came on and managed to get 53 litres in it. the brochure states 61 litres as tank capacity for the Avant so one can assume a reserve of 9 litres or 2 gallons. At approx. 25 to the gallon that would give a reserve of 50...

    N/S Outer C V Gaiter

you can usually remove the CV by putting the bolt back in and tightening it up, it pushes against the end of the shaft and drives the CV off

    Fuel gauge stops working

there's a wire that links the float to the body on the sender in the tank. mine went last summer, just pop the sender out and solder a new piece in. I used the conductor from an old set of test leads as they're nice and flexible

    B5 S4 Thermostat change

Can i retract my previous comment, i spoke to Charlie at FA Ropers and he said it was possible but it was a pig. you have to loosen the front end so you can move the radiator etc forward and then when you put the new stat in there's hardly any clearance so it's a struggle to get the water...

    B5 S4 Thermostat change

My S4 is just in for a Timing belt change, new thermostat, waterpump etc. i nipped down last night to see the progress. i'd be incredibly surprised if you could get to the thermostat without removing the belt, it really is buried in the back of beyond

    Brake Fluid

i had to search for the info and weed through a lot of chaffe to get to the nuts and bolts of it all. one camp say DOT 5 is a better fluid because it doesn't absorb moisture but that is based around the premis that you don't get moisture in the system in the first place. now you can check this...

    MAX POWER AUDI A4 LOL

Sold for £530 quid, that's about £500 too much, lol

    Brake Fluid

Chris you're right, it's not hygroscopic and i did get confused. because it doesn't absorb moisture any that gathers in the system falls to the lowest part of the system, usually the calliper. this is then easily boiled during normal braking causing the vapour lock hence the reason it should be...

    Brake Fluid

we had a look at fluids a while back when upgrading Clives front brakes, our conclusions where that Dot 5.1 was compatable with Dot 4. Dot 5.1 was basically the same as 4 but lighter to take advantage of increased speed of cycling the ABS pump when you lock a wheel up. since DOT 4 was the...

eBay Coilovers - Anyone got these?

never heard of them before. i'm always a bit sceptical of items with names like that plus it says at the top of the advert the item location is in Belgium but at the bottom says they're a genuine UK company so who knows, seems if they're lying about the company location then what else are they...

    Spacers and ebay

can you expand on this, i can't see any reference to coatings in the advert, i'd be interested to know what the coating is and why it's now illegal. in my opinion i'd rather go for a steel spacer because the weight of the car is sitting on the spigot, personally i wouldn't feel safe with all...

there's 2 security features in your key. the remote control for the alarm/central locking which can be programmed by pressing the unlock button and then manualy unlocking the car, very easy to do. there's also the immobiliser transponder in the front half of the key. this has to be paired with...
