    A6 sports suspension

I found different tyres made a huge difference to the noise - same vintage saloon with sport/17s. Finally settled on Goodyear GSD3s which were a LOT quieter and lasted longer than other options. Me, I'd be tempted to stick with 17s and change the tyres.

    new tv wanted

Absolutely second that. Panny plasmas wipe the floor with anything else out there - particularly LCDs. Superb upscaling from SD sources, and very realistic HiDef rendering from BluRay. LCDs (even v. expensive ones) look artificial by comparison. Could not be happier with ours (42").

    Audi A6 Avant 1.9tdi 6 speed - manual

Jetcat, the 6sp man box will give worse fuel consumption (prob 5-10%), but is more than offset by the better driveability. IIRC the torque is quite a bit higher with the 6sp box. Can't comment on towing. For me, 6sp is way better - I would definitely go with that.

    Anyone gone blue-ray yet?

Got a Panasonic BD-30 (to match Panny 42" PZ85 Full HD TV). The picture with both blu-ray discs and SD DVDs is absolutely awesome - it is particularly impressive with SD content, which is contrary to a number of reviews I read before buying it - maybe the TV's video upscaling is the winner...

Want an A6 Avant 1.9 tdi - Manual or Auto ??

6-Speed manual for sure. Avoid the Multi box as there are lots of problems with it (nice though it is to drive). I get 40mpg average (1.9TDi sport saloon, 6sp manual, 2004), and once you're moving it doesn't feel that underpowered and the torque is immense for such a small capacity engine -...

    tyre / suspension modificatons

Another tyre option to consider is Good Year F1s - I put those on and what a difference to ride, handling (wet in particular) and noise - although my 1.9TDi has the sport suspension (17" wheels). Transformed the car.

Had to buy new A6 3.2 engine after just 44k miles, Audi UK only pays half

That's outrageous - it'll cost THEM £6k to rebuild, thank you very much. Hope you've got it all documented.

    A6 Exhaust Lifespan?

Hi Folks, Anyone have any idea how long the exhaust system in an A6 1.9TDi 130 should last? Judging by the lack of discussion on the subject on here, I guess it should be a while. Just trying to figure out how much the car is going to cost me over the next couple of years. Currently it is...

    Tyre pressures

Lucky escape - this is one of my big nightmares. Wasn't Saturday August 11th by any chance?? We also driving past Lyon on that day, from down near Cannes - what a nightmare - took 5 hours to go the first 150 miles. Never seen traffic like that.

    Led Zeppelin

I saw Plant last year at a small venue in Edinburgh - absolutely awesome gig. The man is a total star, and his current band are superb. The voice is still excellent for someone pushing 60. They played a bunch of stuff from his latest (first rate) solo effort, and quite a lot of Zeppelin stuff...

    Which ISP?

We're with Zen - a bit more expensive than many, but 100% completely reliable and customer service is second to none. They are a very professional outfit, and you should find a package to suit: http://www.zen.co.uk/broadband/ZenBroadband.aspx This site also gives pretty honest ratings...

    A6 Auto Box Reliability ?

Can't believe that Audi can get away with this. Here is a clear issue with the MT gearbox that absolutely requires changing the oil every 40k - I take it you have never been told this by the dealership you bought the car from or where you have had it serviced since? This should be an integral...

    Printers

Yep - we've got an HP6980 with both ethernet and wireless connectivity. Print quality is really excellent for the money, but the whole wireless thing works a bit intermitently and can be a pain - although of course maybe it just isn't set up right and the Belkin router we have is a bit cr*p...

    Do you Smoke?

Gave up 20 years ago - never regretted it for a minute. Hate the smell of it now, on people you speak to, in pubs, on your clothes etc. (down South or abroad, of course). Smoking ban up here is the best thing (some would say the only thing) the glorified local council in Edinburgh has ever...

Why is my computer so slow now!?

When this starts happening to a computer, often enough the best (and quickest) thing to do is to start from scratch - reformat the drive and reinstall the operating system, then all your applications. If you still have all the original operating system, application and Dell utility disks etc...
