It was 1.33.? I seem to remember. A second slower than the Leon and Civic, a second quicker than the Megane and Mini Cooper S Works. For info, was a manual not a DSG (which is supposed to be a bit quicker).
To anybody out there worrying about the potential costs involved in getting the 2nd - 3rd crunch sorted outside warranty (like I have been) - try getting the gearbox oil chnaged for the fully synthetic £11/litre VAG stuff (I think).
I had this done for £40 + VAT a couple of weeks ago, and...
Hi All
I've decided to change my S3 wheels to 18" RS4 style replica's.
Have just had a quote from Dave Sheldon tyres in Manchester for £900 inc new style Goodyear F1's.
I was hoping to get them for closer to £820 as this seems to be the type of price people are paying according to posts...
Chipsaway did an ace job on my metallic S3 bumper and alloys (and I'm pretty fussy about these things).
Must depend on how good your local guy is I think.
Cheers Al.
And now for a related question.....
I still have the same problem, and am assuming that I'm gonna have to spend a lot to get the gearbox sorted (no warranty). Unfortunately I can't really justify spending that sort of cash on my car currently if I don't absolutely need to get it...
Al
Fingers crossed that it's sorted now.
How long did it take <dealer> to do the work?
Also, do you have any idea how much it would have cost to do what they've done if you'd had to pay for it?
Cheers
I also have a Forge DV, but, ok Mo, you win our game of "S3 Spec Top Trumps".
You know (sorry for being off topic) since I got my Grey beauty a few weeks ago I've seen about 8 S3's, 6 in Mineral / Dolphin - and there was me thinking I had a rare colour! Don't really care - looks so great with...
Ok, really I have an S3 in Mineral Grey (2001 facelift, 210 model) with:
Ali mirrors
Sunroof
Silver Leather
Heated seats
Cruise
Bose + 6CD
Reverse Park
Centre Armrest, cup holder style
Luggage net
REVO SPS 2
11.5K miles on the clock
+ Half a tank of Optimax
I agree with your first point Mo. There is clearly some sort of design flaw if this is happening to so many people, and how long before mine seizes again? I also think that there's a just as high a likelihood that a new gearbox will develop the same symptoms under warranty.
I don't know...
Hey AL
No probs.
Before, I could go on a 3 hour drive in mine and it would still grind it's way into 3rd every time. I think the guy's theory was that because the car (inc gearbox) had been allowed to warm itself up for a significant amount of time but without being driven (ie the engine was...
