I had exactly the same problem a few weeks back with my 2001 TDI. It was due a faulty N75 valve which cost £28 (I think) at a dealership. I also had them fit it, car is completely cured now.
I had my 2001 A4 TDI PD serviced at an Audi dealership last week. On checking the invoice back at home I spotted the price of the oil was very cheap for 505.01 (the grade the owner's manual says is a MUST for PD engines).
I phoned with the dealership - they'd filled it with 505.00 which...
I want to give my 2001 Avant a makeover - nothing flash, just change its looks a bit. I found these rear lights on ebay (the silver ones 'cos it's a silver car). Has anyone fitted them? What do they look like...
Yup, AFN is correct for the 110bhp engine, AJM is in my 115bhp PD. There's a full list here:

Yes, it'll be the pre-PD,110bhp engine - engine code AJN (I think).
I have a '97 with 191,000 miles on the clock. Very reliable, very economic but check two things: when the belt was last changed as it's quite expensive and entails taking the front of the car off and find out if the water...
If it's the boot liner shown here: http://tinyurl.com/tv4w8 it says 'Light weight foam rubber'.
I bought a boot liner for my A4 saloon from www.roofbox.co.uk
It's a harder, plastic type so difficult to pierce if you carry sharp objects (garden tools in our case).
Their code is Code...
It's strange how a set of new injectors cured the problem for a few weeks (admittedly the car wasn't driven much in that time).
Now we're back to square one, loads of smoke at idle and a nasty harsh vibrating/buzzing when driving. It'll be going back in shortly. At least my independent guys...
Guess what - the s*dd*ng smoke's back!!
We were away a lot during July and early August so the car wasn't used much. When we set off for a trip to France three weeks ago we got ten miles, stopped at a T-junction and I noticed smoke billowing up again.
Throughout the four day trip we had...
Finally....after over six months of faffing about the smoke problem appears to be cured!!
Taunton Audi diagnosed an injector problem and reckoned that one or more was dribbling and causing the smoke at idle. They'd tried to set the injectors up according to the book but reckoned it wasn't...
I've just returned from watching an historic Le Mans 24hr race - the Audi R10 TDI car No. 8 won with its sister car No. 7 finishing third. I'm far too tired to write more now...... but what a superb result for Audi.

Subject says it all really; there's nowhere to discuss Audi in DTM, Audi in Le Mans (I'm going next week specifically to watch the R10 race).
Audi has done so well in racing and rallying over many, many years (don't forget the pre-war Auto Union GP cars); we need somewhere to discuss motorsport...
Yup, they're the ones on my '97 Saloon.
My '00 Avant has two 'pegs' sticking up from the floor for each front mat, more or less in the same place as the earlier fixings. I imagine the later mats have holes in them which fit over the 'pegs' which are plastic, about the diameter of your little...

All sorted
Went to local Audi Centre, they had the kits in stock, price was £3.23 + vat.
Kit is an accessory made by Votex and contains enough bits to hold down the n/s and o/s footwell mats.
My mats are now quite secure...
