New S3 Sportback Ordered - and Pan Roof question

Ha. I turn 40 in April. We all need practicality but yearn for our 205 1.9 GTI moment, which was too expensive to insure at the time ;) I think the grunt/torque of an S3 is more than enough, plus you've got the benefit of revs.

New S3 Sportback Ordered - and Pan Roof question

I love those big BMW Diesel engines - they're a fantastic unit. But it needs to be in the right car. I think they suit the SUVs to a tee, the jury is out on whether it packs enough excitement into a 3 series. I've driven a 330d and it is insanely quick and refined, but lacking in character. Its...

New S3 Sportback Ordered - and Pan Roof question

Morning guys, i've just put in an order for an S3 Sportback having been with BMW for many years. I originally drove one a few months or so ago and came away underwhelmed, but after going round in circles for months thinking about what to get, it felt like the best option. 2 small kids and all...

    RS4 test drive

[ QUOTE ] Seriously, what kind of utter *** buys an NSX then lets someone in a diesel A4 take the mick ? [/ QUOTE ] If i had an NSX and someone overtook me on a bend in the wet, i know who i'd think the *** was. Maybe he's just considerate. Why is it that anyone that owns a supercar has to...

    Turbo/Supercarger kits for 3.2

[ QUOTE ] Just get an RS4 B5 loads of fun oem and then loads you can do with it. [/ QUOTE ] exactly, not to mention loads of £££ lost supercharging an NA OEM A3. At least with an RS4, you won't lose as much money after you've had your fun!

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] DSG would be faster, same engine, ultra rapid gear changes, it's not rocket science. [/ QUOTE ] It's evidently not that simple though,is it. They've had to alter the gearing to make it only a bit quicker. DSG,whilst giving "ultra-rapid" changes obviously has other...

    Interesting ebay auction!

hhhmmm, i'd be carefull. Bearing in mind he's also selling spare body parts from the front of a brand new immaculate looking A3 in the same colour as the one with the leather interior.... hmm, Write off! doesn't look like it to me. A write off on a car that new would have substantial damage.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] sounds like you've got a dodgy one mate. mine lets me rev way into the red line! (albiet a petrol) in fact it's never changed up of it's own accord, and i have thrashed the pants off the little fecker. Why don't you take it to a stealer and compare like for like to see if...

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I've never slipped a clutch on the move in the said gear, seems like a real plonky way to drive to me! [/ QUOTE ] Oh hardly... Slightly slipping ( or 'dipping') the clutch is a perfectly acceptable way of getting the revs up in a manual car, rather than changing down to a...

[ QUOTE ] It's only 'fussy' if you drive around in D. How can it be fussy in manual mode. You get just as big a rev range as in the manual, except that 200rpm in the red that no one else uses. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly, and it only changes up on it's own at times where the car would either a/ stall...

[ QUOTE ] I disagree, I think the DSG is better suited to the Tdi engine due to the narrow power band. I find myself changing gear a lot more in my Tdi then I ever did in any of my previous petrol engined cars. J. [/ QUOTE ] So expense and cost saving aside... you'd rather have DSG in a...
