When I had my S3 I bought a enclosed pipercross filter from AMD for my revo intake which quietened it right down.
The range will be low until you do some good miles to get your average consumption back up.

Yeah various under tray screws missing, lack of cleaning up after gearbox or engine oil change.
Brake fluid too full so over spilling etc.
Having had a S3 sportback and then the RS3 I'd say for normal and fast road use the RS3 handles much better in every way.
