Sounds like you have unburnt fuel getting into the cat.
Could be a tooth out on the belt or chain tensioner not installed correctly.
1st thing to do is check the fuses. IIRC there are 3 fuses ( 1, 26, & 44) related to the A/C. If they're ok it's probably a dead A/C Controller.
