Following your response to my e mail address I'm not an engine expert but have learnt a great deal since the occurance of last Monday which happened in the outside lane of a duel carriageway and resulted in a blown turbo cracked engine block and a bill at this stage which will exceed £4,000. Engine began to clatter before weekend however it was not due a service for a couple of weeks on the indicator. Had car towed into local VW specialist in Hoylake .

They referred me to the Audi forum and the BLB issue. In my case the chain actually went through the block.

Clear from extensive reading that a design flaw exists called Audi Liverpool who have serviced the car since new but they advised me no recalls and would not even volunteer the address in he UK to write to to complain.

Had assumed a lost cause as they did not diagnose the problem or get a chance to fix it

My vehicle is July registered 2005 2.0TDI S Line Avant as I said with full Audi service history

    Regards

    Tony
Hi, 2005 Audi 2.0Ltr Tdi broken Balance Shaft.Have paid, had my broken Chain-Driven Balance Shaft replaced with the more durable gear-Driven type. I sent photos of the broken parts to Audi UK Cust.Services, prior to repair.(I kept all those parts) Have written 3 letters,(one to Managing Director Jeremy Hicks),I have spoken to Chelmsford Audi where bought car new. They think they're not responsible for Product Failure! When I was 55 yrs old I bought this car New, 55 reg.Audi 2.0Ltr Tdi to see me through, here at 60yrs,with only 80.000 miles on the clock, the product Let me Down! I asked Audi for 50% contribution towards the repair cost (Little over £1000.00)But they refused. I have been more than fair!... I wish that they had! I would like any other 2005 Audi 2.0Ltr Tdi owners, WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM or EXPERIENCE, to contact me (philipjow@btinternet.com) IT REQUIRES ANOTHER WAY FORWARD. Regards Phil (Clacton-on-Sea,Essex.
Hi, thanks for the feedback on here about defective balance Shaft modules and guides on Audi A4 2.0ltr Tdi's. Have had my 55 plate BLB type engine since new. I have just written a letter to Audi Uk Customer Services, after being told by them that the only reason that they changed there engine design from a Chain driven type to a Gear driven type, was purly to continue their ongoing improvements to their engines! Nonesense! After reading the sad similar stories on here, They know full well that the original chain driven Module was a poor design, and the can of worms that would be opened if they ever admitted it! My 80,000 mile car is still in a garage now, being repaired. Regards Phil Jowitt (Clacton on Sea, essex)
