Help Rear number plate light problem A3!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi I've got an A3 that i took for MOT. It's failed on the reg plate lights which aren't working. The fella at the garage said it might but the unit behind. But I really don't know can anyone help or do it need to change it??
??
Is this a common fault?
The blubs are brand nre by the way LOL

Have you checked the connections and contacts? Sometimes they can scale over a bit, scratch it off, maybe this will get a better contact. Or a loose wire? Seen the units on Ebay not too dear at worse case.

as sarah says its more than likely the connections on the bulb holder they sometimes get rusty if they havent gotten a right seal emory or wire brush it up and youre good to go

just search for led lights, youll see them theyre like 30 quid a side and they are the whole units
