The scene - new years day approx 11am, not a soul in site on a dual carriageway with a 40 limit, spotted a suspicious looking vehicle in the distance approx 300 yards away so dropped speen to 40 from around 55 only to pass the camera van and have my brother to give the copper the v sign (not clever to a kop with a camera but it was too late).

Back to my question,
From what distance can these guys get a photo from?
They say they have photgraphic evidence, can i get a copy without having to go to court to get it Will it increase my 3 pts and 60 quid fine theyre intending to give me if i do?
Could this be just a copper with a grudge cos as far as i was concerened i saw the copper well in time and haddnt given it a second thought

Dont mind takin the 3 pts and fine if need be.
They could of been out there with a brethaliser instead cathing the drink drivers the barstewards!

Do a search in Pepipoo for postings by me there (Gilbo)

My missus got a NIP for doing 95mph in a 70. They gave us photographic evidence. After a bit of time, they dropped the case.....

Pepipoo is great!

Cheers guys its a great site, Well done Gilbo!!

Paul stated that i couldnt get a photo until i attended court (aint got time but they dont need to know that) but in your case Gilbo you got a photo before attending court
What is shown on the photo ie date/time/speed? I very much doubt theyve got any evidence at all, i was unable to tell it was plod at that distance but slowed down anyway just to be sure by the time i passed him i was doing bang on 40

If it was a laser van, they can get you from upto 2km (1.2 miles-ish) and they get a clear photo of the driver. He had probably already done you before your brother stuck his finger up at him.

That cop isnt who decides who get done and who doesn't anyway. He hasnt time, all they do is log the evidence etc and it goes to a processing centre for other people to work out tolerences etc ( its 10% + 2 BTW) and generate NIP's for the unfortunates.

Hi DValve1
Im sure I read somewhere that you wouldn't be given your photo unless it was to be used as evidence against you in court. I may well be wrong though, having never not a NIP (touch wood) I dont know how it works.

Read on pepipoo (recommended by you fine guys) that if you ask for it baecuse you need to identify the driver as one is unaware of who was driving then they should supply it. I was in my fathers car at the time so the notice has gone to him, im just trying to wriggle my wormy way out of it if poss. Im also looking at the angle of the 14 days to give me notice as they used to sent out recorded del but someother act 0f 1994 states they can use first class unreliable post but this a bit too easy?

Would that explain why I wasnt caught as possibly I was not speeding at there 1 milish trigger popint but speeded up towrads the camera at closer range and then realising there was a camera there and then slowed down?

For sure if you suspect you seen him in time to adjust you speed. If the road was busy you have more chance as his view of you could have been obscured etc. If you were the only car on the road he would have had you the moment he saw you. They are like WWII japenese sniper's!

If you say you are unsure who was driving at that time as you and your friend/brother/dad im asuming your male?
(someone same sex) were sharing driving and you would like the photo to mske sure you send in the correct details tc, then they have to supply it IIRC.

I have a jammer/garage door opener and its rediculous how far away they can target you from.

Quite possibly mate, all depends on the amount of traffic as they pick a point usually off a bend so they have a clear view of every car emerging into view! If they targeted you too close for every car they target 3-4 could go by without being hit. If its a quiet road though they'll keep pulsing you, probably due to bordem.

I Should of stayed in bed new years day! Im really begining to take an unhealthy disliking for authority /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I got stopped by a jobsworth cop on Friday evening.

He was toodling on an empty M-way at around 60 in the inside lane, driving like a Granny so I passed him at just over 70... I mean, I am not stupid enough to break a law under a cop's nose and there's always this fear that over-taking a cop is wrong. I don't think he liked it that I went past him and he pulled me when I came off at the junction.

I got lectured to, asked to do a producer and was breathlysed (I never drink anyway so not a trace haha!) I think he had a problem that I was young an in an S3; jealous ****!

However, I have a question:

I have been asked to provide the bill with an insurance certificate within 7 days but the only one I have at hand has the old plate reg on it (before I had a cherished transfer). I rang the insurance company for a new certificate and they said it will be here within 5 or 6 days. What if I don't get the certificate to the police within those 7 days? Will that cause any problems?

Cheers!

I am sure if you explain the situation, produce your old certificate (which will have all the correct details bar number plate), you will be fine.

They'll probably ask to see the new certificate when it arrives. So offer to do that.

Main thing is that you turn up within 7 days with the rest of the stuff, infact turn up ASAP, it might go in your favour.

What did you get lecturered about?

Thanks Ian, you're a star. I'll go tomorrow!

I actually tried to call the local cop-shop the day after (Saturday morning). It took an hour to get through, they then said that I had reached the switch-board and that they would put me through to the correct station. After 5 minutes of ringing, it rang off.

The cop (like I said) was a jobs-worth. I don't think he had much else to do. He said he saw me blasting up, but then I slowed down once I saw him, so he let me off. he then said that he had set his cruise control at 70 bang on and I passed him slowly until I had got more distance before hitting a higher speed again. naturally, I was polite but not apologetic, as in my opinion I was not to blame. I told him that my Road Angel gives an exact GPS speed, which then prompted him to ask the question:

"What are they for?"
"Err, they detect accident black spots and give you a correct GPS speed."
"Oh and they also tell you where speed cameras are don't they" (he says, with cynicism)

He then started going on about young lads in fast cars, saying that although the insurance is probably already expensive (he asked how much), it would be ridiculous if I were fined. After he realised I was articulate and not a scally or bad-boy he was ok... but he was still a bit of a ***** though.

David
How old are you if you dont mind me asking ?
And do you look your age ?

Im just wondering what this copper classes as a "young lad"

I had a lucky escape last night too! Was followed by an unmarked volvo in the 911. He lectured me for tailgaiting as the the car in front of me would'nt pull in when there was nothing in the inside lane.

I pulled into the inside lane and was just about to gun it past him when the blue lights came on from 5 car lengths behind. The cop was great really. He said he was wanting to pull the car hogging the fast lane but had to pull me when he saw i was going to undertake and didnt wanna do me as sympathised with me over the tw4t holding the fat lane.

He said he didn't mind i was doing 86mph as its a fast road and conditions were clear but i was too close to the car in front as if he braked suddenly blah blah.........

Anyway he called in my reg and it came over the radio that it was registered to me, insured in my name etc etc so all i have to do is produce my licence. I think he liked the car!

911 out, in this weather... You must be mad!!

Tailgating? Surely the most efficient way of peppering the front of the car with stone chips...

Its all your fault, you and your sidekick Ess-Three /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif You persueded me! i got too nervous sitting in waiting for 2 burly Scottsman knocking on my door and demandig the keys.

After 2 - 3 miles of following the burk, stonechips were the last thing on my mind, i got sucked in and turned to the darkside.

Paul,

I am 22 years old (just turned).

Although I still feel 16, some people say I look older, others say I look younger.

I just think the cop was a bit of a jealous bell-end.

For anyone who's been caught on a Gatso there is still hope for you! Check this out.
