Black Edition

Hi all,

New to the forum. Currently drive a Leon FR 170 but will hopefully be getting a BE 170 on the next company car list. I have a few questions which I have search for answers already and got some but not others.

1) How long is this limited edition likely to last? Its already been out about a year? I won't be ordering one until August time so is it still likely to be an option.

2) The most my company will wait for a car is 12-14 weeks. Reading posts this would seem to be doubtful that I would be able to get one. Is this colour/spec sensitive as I was just after a normal black version with maybe one or two upgrades.

3) I like decent sized brakes! Has anyone done a S3 conversion on a BE or upgraded with another option.

4) Does the BE come with black roof rails as standard?

Thanks all

@ Dan: Car looks quality Dan! Can't wait to get mine, and get some red photos up. Good that the handover took no time at all.

@ Moley RUFC: I don't think the colour and spec will make much difference on lead times. I ordered red with only comfort pack and bluetooth as extras and its looking like August. I went to the dealership at the weekend, I was told July, and he was trying to sell me a car. Not sure if anything else would effect it.

Dan, awesome looking car mate - thanks for posting your pics. Makes me even more excited about mine, whenever the hell it turns up :) Enjoy!!

Thanks very much for the comments guys, just glad to finally get it and on such a nice day!

Moley - I ordered mine on the 12th Jan and collected on 29th March, making it almost exactly 11 weeks. I think that is a quieter period for them so don't know how it would compare to ordering at another time of year.

As for the S3 brakes, it's funny you should mention that since I'm just waiting on a new pair of discs and then I will be sticking on a set of S3's. I'll let you know how it goes and I've been told it's a straight swap so shouldn't be any problem hopefully!

Are there many BE in showrooms ready to be brought or are they all made to purchase?

Hi Morley,
There are a few in "the system" that are at dealers around the country, you may have to change/drop some of your options. If you find a suitable car then you are in a better position to negotiate a bigger discount.

^^^ Couldn't tell you... When I chose mine they didn't mention that there were any ready to be bought but that's not to say that there weren't any!

I will say that it's definately worth the wait from my one day experience so far. They look great, go like stink and should be more desirable than the 'normal' models when you come to sell up.

I have the 170 engine in my Leon and it is fantastic. Problem is I would wait many many MANY weeks for one, my company on the other hand will only order one if it will come between 12-14 weeks. Other options on the list are (all Sportback and all diesel) :-

140 S Line S Tronic
170 Black Edition
170 Sport S Tronic
170 SE S Tronic
170 S Line
170 Quattro S Line

Problem is I would love the BOSE and Xenons without paying an excess which is why I'm drawn to the BE

I really don't know what to say to help after having looked at the options you have...

I love the BOSE and Xenons just as you do, but today in the rain I REALLY loved the Quattro which lets you have absolute grip. I guess it's a bit of a trade off for you. The BOSE and Xenons are good, but so is the security of Quattro, especially since most of the options you are given would wheelspin through third gear in the wet otherwise... :)

Yeah as Carl says Dan looking good should be good with the S3 brakes. see you on the 11th

Haha, my boss is a guy so not an option unfortunately. However, his boss is an attractive older woman and I'm wondering if the fix mentioned above could be used to 'sway' his decision... :sex:

had a call from my dealer today....BE 2L TFSI (sportback) arrives 3rd week of April :)

I asked him whether he would fit the mudflaps I've seen mentioned here, and he refused, which was disappointing... I'm concerned that stone chips will affect the paint :( Will have to get them fitted somewhere

I would also like a S-Line grille badge (I believe the BE comes with a side badge as standard?).... found these guys on ebay but none see to be grille specific.. any other seller suggestions?

oh and yes the BE does come with side s-line badges just no grill badge, looks much better with the grill badge on

I pick my car up tomorrow, on nightshift this week will we the longest 12 hour shift of my life tonight ha ha. Will get some pics up soon.

Bit of a general question.... over the years on my current car I've knackered my fuel cap area because of dripping petrol

do the A3 have some form of anti-drip mechanism so the fuel doesnt go on the paintwork? maybe some kind of funnel?

cheers

When do you get to propperly drive it again? I know you've said but I'm too lazy to trawl through the posts... :lazy:

Yeah it's called being careful, 'give the nozzle a shake before putting it back' lol.

Dan i have my test on the 29th of april so will have the L's on today haha class. Poor day for getin a new car, may leave it at audi if it doesn't improve.

It's a terrible day isn't it?! Quattro put a smile on my face again today when people were struggling to get out of my street and I was able to stop on the hill, help push some BMW's *hiss* up and on their way and then get back in and drive off no questions asked... Love it.

On a slightly conflicting note I tried to have some fun in the snow last night with the ESP and off but the car just refuses to really slide! Other people were managing to slide so it was slippery enough, just it's like you can't turn off the anti-spin facility and it keeps putting you back in a straight line! lol.

Dan - did you put the Quattro grille badge on yourself or did it come with it? Not seen a Quattro and one not available so i test drove the FWD 170BHP TDI before ordering.

On the double exhause though i believe that it is the 140BHP models that have been coming with a single pipe.

Been built for almost 3 weeks now and still await a shipping date!!!!

I didn't put the badge on, it came with it attached. I was quite surprised as I have not seen any BE with it on until I arrived to pick mine up, pleasantly surprised though!

I didn't even get to drive the 170 FWD version, all I got was the 140 and it seemed like you could light up the tires very easily so I would be scared of the amount of rubber I would go through if I had that.

I'm assuming that you are ordering a Quattro from the questions you're asking so I'll just say it's really good for getting about in the snow (given the weather at the moment) - but terrible for sliding and having fun even with the ESP turned off. Stupid Germans and their engineering. :)

And lastly, mine was built and about 3-3 1/2 weeks later I collected so I would give them a shout and see what they're saying. They never did give me a shipping date, just an email saying I could arrange delivery/licence plate. Good luck, hope it arrives soon!

Its always worth ringing around all your local Audi dealers to see what they have and whats on the way.. By chance I only had to wait one week for mine.

Lovely Ibis Dan. Ive said it before and will continue to say it... pictures dont do the car justice!

30 min hand over time... crazy. Did you get flowers. We got some 'lovely touch for the mrs's'

Hi,

I have an Audi A4 S-Line Convertible (2007) and keen to get those alloys - I've seen them on the Audi A4 final edition models (2009) - does anyone know where I can buy them??

I've seen RS4 replica's but not in the same colour - can anyone help???

Thanks,

Lee

Are you talking about the BE anthracite alloys? I read that they are £400 per rim from Audi.

I completely agree, it looks much better in the metal.

And no, I didn't get any flowers! :ermm: Didn't realise that was one of the options when you bought the car! lol.

Oh and a little off topic but I was wondering if anyone knew the answer... When I leave the car for a while and get back in the trip computer 1 seems to reset itself but trip 2 seems to be as it was when I got out. Is this normal? Only noticed it now so I'll have a look when I get back in and make sure I'm not imagining things... :tocktock:

Cheers Dan - Yes, ordered the Quattro. Have a 2yr old VW Eos now which i love to bits, but in the snow, ice or even extreme wet it's heart in mouth time! And i travel with work and have a lot of back lanes to get to my fixed place of work. 170BHP Quattro black edition has all the toys, same 0-62 as the Eos and plenty more torque. Had to order one for build rather than see what was in the system as i have had it specced out exactly as i wanted. If gonna change from a car i love i want a new one with exactly what i want on it!

After placing a deposit on in my BE, i am off to Harrogate in the morning to test drive it
Here is a pic taken from the audi webby.

Hi Guys,

Only joined today, but reading for a while now.

I picked up my new BE on Thursday and just love this car. Was going to by a new 3 door, but with a lead time of late August, decided to look for an ex demo. Luckily my local Audi (Hull) had a Jan 59 plate SB 2.0TDI (140) in Monza Silver with Bluetooth and voice control, rear sensors, 6 cd changer and also a tracker, in stock available for May 1st. After a bit of haggling they allowed me to collect 1st April and I am now so glad I got a SB, really liking the look now, love Monza Silver also, again would have picked Black if ordered new, but think the alloys and whole styling really suit the colour.

Changing from a very boring 3 series BMW, the BE is just so much fun to drive, making first motorway trip tomorrow so looking forward to testing it a bit more.

Thanks for all the info and help I have read on here in the past few weeks, really helped me make my mind up to go for a BE over a standard S-Line.
