Ok im in need of help here guys, I have a standard agu apart from a remap with 100000 miles on it. Its recently started to smoke when starting up/warming up and if i let it sit at idle for a short while the blip the throttle it spits out a huge puff of black/greyish smoke. Any advise would be exellent. Also the car runs fine nothing wrong with the way it drive and pulls through the revs at all.

Check your pcv, get a new pressure regulator valve, flush the engine, new oil (10w40) and new filter. This is a start, hopefully it should be nothing too serious and it'll solve the problem.

I had the same on my S3, i did the above and mine stopped smoking:)

Your sure the smoke is black?
Mine did the same but it was blue smoke... mine turned out to be a valve stem oil seal that had split.

Yeah the smoke is def more blue, almost sure its burnt oil. Always did it a very small amount but now is worse than ever, if leave to idle for more than a minute or so it emits a very large puff of blue smoke

I would say stem seals.
But its a ****** of a job as i think the only way to replace them is to take the head off.

In for mot on tues so get them to do an oil flush change and filter, ive tested the pcv valve and it seems to be doing its job. what led you to believe yours was faulty?

Head off ahhh, just forked 500 on a new clutch. Somone told me you could the the seals from above but have to remove cams ect. Did yours drive fine with the split seals?

I too have heard storys about people that can do the stem seals without removing the head BUT never found anywhere that did it on the 20v audi engine.
Mine drove faultlessly while it was smoking. no drop off in power, Just the embaresment of smoke on every trip out

Ok well thanks for the advise, i will see what the Garage think when i get it mot, looks like the work will be covered by the 2 year warranty that came with the car fingers crossed (blood out of a stone i will imagine)

Mine had gone just before my mot too.
The tester wasnt too happy as my car puff'd blue smoke out while he was fitting the emissions probe

Yeah stem seals or possibly turbo seals passing a little oil? does it smoke more when on boost? if so then suspect turbo!

Mine only did it when started and or when left to idle.

IF it turnes out to be the stem seals... I would have the condition of the valve guides checked too,
I had all mine replaced as they had play . The engine reckon place said that if the valve guides are all in A1 condition even with split stem seals there would be only a very slight sign of smoke,
Also only use Genuine Audi replacements to be on the safe side too.

Mine was doing the same, left on idle it used to puff out a cloud of blue smoke when i blipped the throttle. I was quite worried and stem seal were mention but i did the basic stuff first to see if it cured the issue, my pcv was fine too, changing the pressure regulator valve was the first thing i did, then flushed and did the oil service. It's never smoked since, hopefully it ain't the stem seals

I knew sandip would step in for this, as he helped with my blue smoke, failing MOT at some point, I still haven't done a proper service, but managed to get some stop smoke liquid into the old oil, and reduced the smoke by around 80% and passed the mot, since then It smokes very little, so I would say do the simple things first as well, before splashing out.

I did change this part too. But no change, I dropped the oil and filter hoping it was just "bad oil" or a problem with the filter,
It wasnt a cheap fix for me though.

Oh dear,:sorry:

You might aswell change the prv too bud, around £20 from Audi. The only thing you then have to keep your eye on is the pcv which is under the intake manifold, if you have alot of oily residue/mist you'll have a leak somewhere, what i did was clean it all up by using some engine cleaner, now i check it weekly to se if there is any signs of oily mist
