Hi , i was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on the black headlining option ! I have read that some think it makes the interior seem very small and dark others say that it looks good and adds a little extra to the interior . Also , can anyone confirm that when you select this option all the others bits and pieces are then black . For example sunvisors , interior light , mirror , handles and i've heard mentioned the 'A' pillar being black but i'm not sure what colour this is usually , many thanks .

The light interior looks gash, you want the black headlining...

I disagree, I'd say you NEED a black headlining. Anything else is revolting and has no place in an Audi.

After going from a silver leather interior with a sunroof, to a black leather interior with no sunroof, the black headlining was just too dark for me. The lighter headlining just made it brighter inside. Personal taste of course.

I had a black headlining in a lowered corrado, and it suited that, but not in a family car.

just go with what you like, you're the one that's going to have to live with it.

You need black headlining, makes a massive difference to the feel of the interior. The cream one just looks :puke2:

haha, there's no persuading you is there :)

On a sportback I just find it breaks up what would otherwise be a totally black interior, apart from the aluminium trim. I find it makes the cabin a lot lighter and a nicer place to be without being too oppressive like the black. It also make the interior feel more spacious.

I sat in an ibis black addition with black roof lining briefly and must admit it didn't appear too dark and i quite liked it - but it was briefly !!! when you order this as an option would i be right in saying that all the furniture etc is also black ??? One thing to also bare in mind is that i would be going for privacy glass - would this be too much ?

My friend has been driving his 56 plate S3 for 3 years telling me his headlining is FAIL.....the black headlining doesn't make the cabin that dark!

Black headlining is the law, end of!

I had an A3 courtesy car with a creamy grey headlining and to be honest, it took me a few minutes to realise. In no way did it seem lighter inside than my S line. Only after I realised it was different did I notice that I hated its hearing aid beige colour!

Just reminds me of old people and nissan micras

But then I have always had dubs and the sporty ones have always had dark healiners so i'm used to them.

I've certainly never found it makes the interior feel dark. To me it's the sign of a classy car. Grey/cream headling is very "SE" and only suitable for retired gentlemen (no offence to Dave R...)

Thanks everyone , it seems overwelmingly BLACK . If you had the black roof lining option would you get a black rear view mirror and grab handles or would you still get the light coloured RV mirror etc . Has anyone bought this as an additional option for i think £195 if so what do you get ? I'm a little concerned that you may get the black roof lining only but all or some of the furniture would still be the light colour . as 'SunnyDlite' says the light RVM doesn't look good . Cheers .

Wouldn't consider anything else than black. I dislike the silver lining, If you are not sure, just add a sunroof to add light in the cabin :)

Dark grey alcantara beats black I think, but that's it!

mine is light grey - I think it looks fine but black would be better. Didnt realise it was so disliked, I shall go off and torch the car - will be a nice black colour after that LOL

There sure is a lot of hate out there for the silver headlining!! I wonder how much of that comes from the day when you could only get a black headlining on the GTi? Either way, the choice is strictly personal from the A3's perspective, as you can spec most S3 options on any of the "Famine" range - not much is exclusive any more.

Ironically though, from the A3 brochure (and I'm not reading too much into that, as its always wrong) it seems that the black cloth headlining isn't standard, or an option on either the S3 or the S3 black edition??

With this thread in mind I made an effort to notice the headlining in mine (it's the lighter white/grey colour) - looks fine to me! I think the black option is perhaps the "sportier" option and perhaps more in keeping with those trying to matt black the exterior chrome for a modified look. But honestly don't have a problem with the lighter colour, looks fine to me and will make it feel more airy (reason it's that colour in the first place!).

In terms of car appearance and options, the colour of the headlining is way down on my preferences, in fact I don't think I've ever thought about it before!! :icon_thumright:

My S-Line has the black headlining and Privacy Glass and I can confirm that its not too dark. As others have said, I feel it makes the interior classier still (if thats possible?!)

It is possible :)

Some people like old-lady-tight-beige, but us cool kids love our black headlining!

I have black headlining in my S line A3, i always thought it was standard on the S line models?

I love it, makes the inside of the car feel really dark which i like.

anyone who opts for a grey headlining shouldn't be on the road!

Seems that black is overwelmingly the prefered choice - it's just a shame you have to pay 195 quid for it ! :icon_thumright:

Mines black lining and black RVM! Everythings black!!!!

I've got the beige headlining in mine, not a fan, nor have I ever been!

On the look out at the moment for a black liner etc, failing that i've a large section of black suede i bought to retrim my Mk4 golf headlining but never got round to it.

I have to agree though, black is best, anyone who claims it makes the cabin feel small is just making excuses to justify it!

i have a brilliant red BE sportback on order with open sky sunroof , so i will get best of both worlds

The most annoying thing about the grey headlining is when the car is black or a dark shade because the interior mirror is light grey too and sticks out like a sore thumb in photos!

It is standard on Slines by the way.
