hi there i have an 1.8t sport a4 fitted with 19 inch rs4 reps currently on jmax coil overs and the ride is far to hard at the moment. my other half uses the car most of the time probably going to change to 18 inch wheels when tyres need replacing to get a bit more rubber on the wheel. just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a good suspension set up?

cheers russ

I use Lowering springs on standard new sports shocks.Running a 40/50mm drop on 17's. Ride is pretty good. The best thing you could do, as you suggested is to drop a size/a few sizes and get some more rubber on there! I wouldn't personally go any lower than a 45 profile tyre on a 17 inch rim. In the meantime, I know it sounds obvious, but try dropping the psi a bit and see if it makes a difference....

I'd say go for a good quality set of springs and shocks, weitec or kw or the bilstein dampers and eibach springs is also a good choice.

I suspect its the crappy coilovers that are causing most of the problem, although i agree i wouldnt want to run anything smaller than a 45 on a daily driver.

As phoenix says, some good lowering springs on OE dampers works well (eibachs pro-kit comes recommended), however new sports shocks are ****** expensive from audi, so much so that it works out the same to simply buy a complete setup like a Koni SSK or Bilstein Sprintline/B12 kit outright. Eibach also offer the "ProSystem", which is their pro-kit springs, coupled with their "Pro-Damper" shocks

To give you an idea of the costs, the Eibach Pro-Kit springs are around £150, and the Pro-Dampers are around £470
New audi Sports dampers are around £400 (this is a rough estimate, perhaps phoenix can confirm)
A set of Bilstein B6 shocks to go with the pro-kit are around £420

Koni's SSK kit is around £570
Bilstein Sprintline is also £570, B12 is slightly less at £550.

Given the cost of using the pro-kit springs with new OE dampers, i would be tempted to buy one of the complete kits instead.

thanks for all your replys been a great help

cheers russ
