Hi,
I've just part exchanged my 195,000 mile VW Passat for a 2007 Quattro S Line Sport, lovely car, wanted one for ages.

However, I'm a bit concerned with some vibrations that I'm feeling from the car.

Firstly there's a vibration through the clutch pedal as I start to depress it which disappears as I press the pedal down further.

Secondly I can feel a slight vibration through the steering wheel at higher speeds.

I've searched the internet and some of the answers sound a bit expensive & time consuming! (Dual mass flywheel replacement, clutch, engine mounts etc.)

Has anyone else had this problem and know a solution? This is the first Audi I've ever owned so any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks guys!

Sounds like you might already have the answer to your own question ie DMF on it`s way out and engine mounts. If you have just bought the car the garage should fix this stuff for free. The sooner you point it out to them the more likely they are to fix it for you.

If that's the case and it is the DMF it seems (from reading a lot of threads on here!) that there are two choices OEM or Sachs.......any thoughts on which might be better??
Is it good sense to replace the clutch at the same time anyway? If so, how much are we talking here???

Gonna be a bit galling as I did nearly 100,000 miles in the Passat and pretty much just had to service it!

The steering wheel vibration at high speeds sounds like a simple wheel balance problem although it could be a damaged tyre.
If the tyres are still good just get em balanced,
Unless the clutch problem has put undue or irregular wear on the plates you shouldn't have to replace them - there should be another 50-100k in them.

Bought the car from The Car Shop in Northampton. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

I'm sure the salesman said there was no warranty with it and once you'd driven it away that was the end of it...........but that can't be right can it????? Not when you've spent that much money??

If you buy from a dealer then you are covered by the sales of goods act 1979. If the car has any inherent faults, whether they say you have a warranty or not is irrelevant, they have to either fix it or give you your money back. If you hand the car back though they can make a deduction for usage so beware!
I would ask them to investigate the problem in the first instance, telling them what you believe to be the problem and why and if your not happy with the outcome of this then you'll have to get a second opinion before going any further.
I'd keep an open mind though for now but keep a record of every conversation. If you send any letters, send them recorded delivery and try to remain amicable until such times as they need a kick in the right direction.

Best of luck!

Would i be right in thinking your used to driving/tuning petrol cars ?

Only bought it about a week ago so hopefully they wouldn't deduct to much!?

Don't really want to have to give it back as tracking down a Black 2.0tdi Quattro S Line Sport 170 was hard enough in the first place without trying to find another one!

Thanks for all your advice guys, i'll let you know how it goes.

If it does need the clutch & flywheel replacing does anyone have any advice on which ones to put in? Sachs/OEM or are there any other manufacturers out there making replacements now?

The problem seems to have been around for a while judging by some of the posts on this here forum, so you'd like to think so........
