Another one lost to the scrappage scheme

I'm gutted to say that my old B5 that i've had for 8 years is going to be handed in as part of the scrappage scheme.

The other is just too good to miss, especially as the car is loosing water internally somewhere. :-(

Does anyone have any ideas on what parts i can remove from the car with regard to selling on. I'm guessing as the car will be scrapped anyway, it wont make a difference to the dealers.

I would post pictures of the car but i don't think i can at the moment.

pull the engine, gearbox, interior, doors, headlights.......sure they won't mind!

did hear a story of a car coming into dealership forecourt, sales guy did a deal on part ex without even looking at the heap.....only to find the pikeys had freewheeled in without an engine!! myth no doubt but made me laugh

I was thinking of more subtle components such as the climate control module, cd changer and other bits like that. :)

It's a facelift B5 so people may want some bits off it.
 
headlights, replcae them with no facelft....
 
The centre console is probably worth money, as its a facelift item.

I'd have probably looked at taking the climate control out of it if you were closer to me.

I'd pull out anything i could tbh. Central locking pump, rear lights, grille, are all worth money.
 
We've just taken one in here, but it's a '95. Pre-facelift, and there's precious little of any use I can nick from it.

If I were you, being yours is a facelift, I would remove:- (e.g these are bits I quite fancy)

A/C Compressor
Climate control unit
Centre Console
Facelift headlamps
Facelift rear lamps
Stereo / CD Changer
interior decor trim (if not wood veneer)...

The one which has come in to us is a 2.6, and hasn't even got a/c. All I can get from it is a rear reading lamp switch (I need one).

Shame you're not more local to me, I'd love some facelift headlamps....
 
you could swap good parts for bad parts etc, I need the long part of centre console with ashtray, diagnostic plug cover and cig lighter, also need decent boot carpet and a blank switch cover, handbrake lever cover also want engine undertray. You could have my old console and carpet! also have dodgy drivers side headlight you could put on.
 
This sounds like a great game!

Rules are simple: you have to remove as much as possible from a car without it noticing at a glance and the lighter the end "car" the more likely you are to win.

extra points for a car swapped in without windows, engine, interior trim, axle, wheelnuts and headlining...

Wonder how far you could go before they refused to accept it!!
 
The "rules" say your only allowed to remove personal items, and that the tyres and battery etc must be left on.

But as long as its not immediately noticable (like the central locking pump for instance) i cant see the problem.

I'd even go as far as swapping the battery out for a knackered one that required jump starting to start the car etc.

AC Compressor could be removed "It siezed up last year", lights would probably have to be swapped for pre-facelift items

If lots of parts appear "broken" it makes it seem more likely thats why your scrapping it anyway!

If you lived nearer i'd have the climate control /heater box/ console etc and put my old parts in instead but its just a bit too far.
 
Hi all,

I didn't realise i couldn't take bits off the car, i was under the impression that as long as i can drive it into the dealers on the day then it wouldn't matter as it is getting scrapped anyway.

I'm sure the scrap yards are going to make a few quid removing as much as they can before they crush it. I don't want to give them the whole car to scrap or is that the deal that they're getting from the goverment.

Geez, all this red tape.
 
It must be the most ungreen idea the government as had for some time (save the auto industry/**** the plannet)
I was looking around all the local dealers for a cheap motor and struggled to find anything decent for around a grand
The dealers said that they were all having the same problem as due to the scrappage scheme many a decent car was sitting in some breakers yard waiting to be turned into tin cans
Surely from a ecological point of view we should be able to remove anything that can be recycled
 
The breakers yards will be allowed to dismantle them and sell on the parts, they're probably laughing their way to the bank, as they're getting a steady supply of cars they'd never normally see, and will undoubtedly be making a mint off these "scrap" cars, as most of them arent actually scrap at all, and are new enough to be littered with desirable parts.
 
What colour is the facelift A4 you're scrapping...?

If it's silver, can I swap over the bonnet...?

As far as i know the car does'nt have to run (may vary with different dealers though), a mate does a lot of transport for a local Honda dealer and was asked to pick up a non running Astra last week while the customer was in the showroom, they looked round it for all of 2 seconds when he dropped it on the forecourt.
Told him if he picks up any A4's to give me a shout before he drops it off:icon_thumright:
 
If you can take the air vents out,,, ( i think they light up ) and i will send you mine to replace them with along with some £££'s for your trouble :icon_thumright:

And i like the sound of this game
