Was wondering if they record your registration number or not.

Today I had one pointed at me. I was doing 40 when i saw him (quite a distance away) then 35 when I was near to him (which would be 32mph in reality taking into account the speedo inaccuracy)
I didn't get stopped, although when I was almost on top of him he continued to point the gun almost following me as i passed him, either

a) to desperately get a reading
b) to get an image of my number plate

Any assistance/advice greatly apprecuiated

Paul

Hello mate, Just read your post regarding the speed gun today.I'm not aware of any hand held equipment that allows them to record an image of your registration number, however that been said, and not wanting to be the messenger that brings bad news, i have seen them with small cameras, about the size of a small palm type camcorder, mounted on tripod at the side of their vehicles, partcularly these "safety camera partnership" vans. They can have some degree of autonomy as to what they set the speed at which they'll prosecute you, depending on criteria like the road conditions, weather, are you ina built up area, time of day (are school kids on the road) etc. If you WERE the doing the speed you claim, i'll wager ten of your english pounds that you got lucky today. Sounds as though you were being reasonable and sensible, and that you're a victim like many of us become, of being soft targets..... Decent motor, likely to be insured, serviced, well shod, raesonably driven, and driven by someone with a reasonable income living at a fixed address, who will pay the fine, and not create too much paperwork, just jand over the revenue. Whay you really want to do is... be unemployed, living in rented accomodation, be banned from driving for drug or drink offences, and have a history of offences for burglary, violenece, and non attendance at court for answer to other charges, driving a car with no MOT , not registered in your name, no TAX, or insurance, bald tyres, high emmissions, binatone cd player with two mismatched subs, the size of dustbin lids, banging poor quality R&B and trance, thump, thump, thump, weeeeehooooo weeeeehoooo, thump, thump, thump, blacked out windows, i could literally go on for hours (sheeeesh i already have) i AM getting old. Good luck anyway mate.

sorry about the poor spelling and grammar, it goes right out of the window, when i get my "when i was a lad" head on. Son mio divertita!

We have 2 people around ours who have been given a laser speed camera and trained by the police to catch people speeding. 1st time letter, 2nd time letter / fine.

I actually think it is a good idea as they target EVERYONE!! AND it saves having a permanent speed camera eye saw or police there all the time!

Not been caught yet, but I drive a hell of a lot closer to the speed limit at all times now. At then end of the day everyone moans about speed cameras and revenue etc. Well beat them at their own game!! Don't speed and then there's nothing to worry about. I do think variable speed limits would be a good idea though ie night and day. Then when you do want to speed, simply go onto a national speed limit road up to 60mph. The tighter and the faster it'll seem!!

thats me out then LOL!!

you forgot to mention the dump valve as well pischhhhhhh.

i too agree to have higher speed limits at night, i recon around 90-100ish but it will only encourage the nova owners to try and get a totally unsafe speed out of their unsafe cars (sorry but this also includes A2's LOL).

i do believe that we should change the speed limits to german autobahn limits (none he he he) i find at higher speed comes more consentration, in my opinion, but once again comes down to those 17yrs old fools with the old dinosours with a froged MOT and photocoppied tax disc!

i recon ban all other cars and give audi's the rule of the roost woohoo!

glad there is no bias there Foolish3uk /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif I guess the world would be like I-Robot . . . it seemed every car in the film was an Audi, check it out!!!

Product placement that's what that's all about. You can see the new grill shape on the steering wheels upside down on the head rests and on the front of the cars.

I went past a patrol car pointing a laser/radar gun at me at 5:50am the other week, I was doing 70 on a nsl.
If he had wanted to stop you, he would have done it there and then.
If you check out the 5ive-o forums, similar questions have been asked and the answer was they would stop you on the spot, especially if they were in a patrol car.

I was caught by a laser gun on 20th nov doing 53 in a 40. A prosecution letter dropped through the door a week later.

Got my first SP30 with 3 points and a £60 fine. Joy.

Were you pulled over though ?
If not, then these guns must record your reg number, surely.

If it was a hand held laser gun, then chances are it won't have taken a picture of your number plate as well. Usuyally in these situations there are other 'officers' further up the road to pull you over, or they just nail it and catch up with you. Either way, I'd say you'll be okay - hopefully /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
