Bloddy hell, there can't be many 1.8T with much more power than that?

Theres quite a few in the high 400s and even 500s around I believe.

sounds like a flying machine andy. What a/r have you gone for with the gt2871 .64 or .84?Did impossible performance fit the turbo etc?Did you use a jabba manifold or custom made ?Who made your custom downpipe?I'd be interested to know who did your mapping and what injectors you are using.Ryan

Just the gt2871r yeah impossible done it its the first 71r they have done..they done all the downpipe and mapping etc..it took time and alot of sweat/swearing from what i can tell..using 430 injectors..

i have to say has any s3 owner actually had the jabba kit..?they advertise it but dont hear of it being fitted on any s3..the kit was still in production in may this year..hence why i went elsewhere

There is a chap on here, Dave Redpath who has it on his S3.

hi andy,
As rich says there is one guy with a IHI fitted ,i think AMD did the hard work fitting.I would have thought you must have the .86 housing on your gt2871 as this is good for 400hp.Your turbo will produce alot more power than a IHI and you have uprated the internals to cope which is sensible.I'm sticking with standard internals thats why i went with the gt28rs (0.86) should be good for 350bhp hopefully.

The guys running 4-500 hp in the us are using gt30 and 40 r's. They claim to drive them every day, but I doubt it.
Also to get 400hp from a 1.8T, you've got to be running 300lbft at 7000rpm. This equates to 18psi of boost at 7krpm at 100% volumetric efficiency. You'll be lucky to better 85% VE at high revs on a heavily boosted engine. so you'll need to run 24psi of boost at 85% VE at 7K rpm to achieve it. I'm achieving low to mid 70's% VE on my IHI'd 1.8T at 7Krpm.

At 6.5k rpm I'm achieving 80% VE at 21psi on a small port head, whilst rich is achieving 85% VE on a big port head with lower boost (18psi). The big port head is helping a bit, but as boost goes up, VE goes down. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

To achieve 500hp, you'll need to maintain 21psi boost at 8000rpm, at 100%VE. This aint happening.
The head doesn't like 8000rpm without solid lifters, single piece valves, and you're never going to achieve 100%VE. Fairy stories!

I'm sure mine is still at 20psi at 7000rpm.

A lot of the cars in the US are running BIG boost. Talking 30psi!!!

Jabba themselves say that they can get upto 650bhp from the 1.8T, although I'm not sure exactly how much of the original engine would be left. Also, note that this is on their sales sheet but AFAIK its not been done yet, so its just a claim/estimate.

What IHI did Bills 400+bhp Golf run?

Mine holds 21psi to 7300rpm.
Its odd, but the ex jabba golf with a suposed 400hp (391 was the highest figure I ever saw quoted)never performed as well as it did with the 370 they claimed back in PVW 2 years ago. The figures PVW got on it are remarkebly similar to those I can achieve in my 320HP car (odd that as it's the same turbo maxed out). It also never performed like a 400hp, 1250kg car should. To give you an idea a 320hp/tonne car should hit the ton in around 10.5 seconds if its fwd and achieving a 5.5 sec 60. I never saw it better the 11.9.

I believe it ran the same turbo that you have at the end. ie ihivf34 with p20 housing. It's had some head work though and was a 1.9l /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

Guys, obviously you lot with the GT28 have spent a lot of money and god knows ive looked into it many times but what made you spend the extra for the GT28 rather than the T28? I spoke to a leading bloke at turbo technics and he warned me away from this turbo and told me to go for a T28 as its cheaper, can be rebuilt and there isnt much difference in them. Basically, this bloke knows his turbos and cars very well and he basically has said to me that the GT28 is not a good turbo to fit to a VAG car. I myself was going for the GT28 kit but after being told all this from an expert in turbo technology, ill be rethinking my options.

Does the guy at turbo technics have other motives in telling you a gt28 is no good.I don't think that ATP would reccommend a gt28rs on a 1.8t if it didn't do the job they are by far a much bigger company. They are harder to rebuild but so is any roller bearing turbo.
Stuart why don't you go with the ihi,it is a proven turbo on the 1.8t.I personally think the gt28rs is very good too.

Ryan, i cant see how he could have other motives as a T28 is cheaper, therefore they wont make as much money. Dont get me wrong guys im not slating your choices, i was just curious. I have been waiting ages now to hear back from jabbasport, ive been on the waiting list for about a year now and ive given up, obviously didnt want my business. I cant afford to do it at mo now anyway but its something ive been looking at for ages.

well i can't see any disadvantage of the gt28rs on the 1.8t it's a proven turbo in the states. It may lose a little at very top end ,but i think i can live with it if i'm over 330bhp!!!If not go for the gt2871r.The ihi is good too.I can't actually see how this guy can comment anyway. How many gt series 1.8t's are there in the uk??

Went to a rolling road day at Stealth Racing the other day. Got 355bhp and 313lbft (Once they finally managed to stop it wheelspinning after 5 runs).

That is remarkably close the the 361bhp and 313lbft I got on Jabbas rollers, so I'm very happy. Kind of verifies that Jabba weren't inflating their figures.

I was running 1.35bar on my IHI with 20 housing. Bill ran 25psi and maxed out the rollers, but you could see it had significantly more power... so I've still got some scope for improvement before I max out the turbo.

Cheers
Ben
