Hi guys,
Its been a while since ive been on the forum.

I am just about to order another A3, a sportback this time.

My question is... what are the rumours regarding a new model? Is it imminent? Do we know when a new model will be release? should I wait?

Thanks in advance everyone!

joel

I thought about this when i ordered my black edition... I based my order on the fact that there have been no spyshots, concept models, announcements or motor show appearances. I guess Audi have got their hand full with the A1 at the moment but i would think the A3 will get some attention in the very near future as its the oldest of the bunch now. You say your intrested in the sportback, id say your probably safer with the sportback assuming audi will stagger the 3 door 5 door releases. Obviously these are my own observations and the basis i ordered my A3.

Question is, if you wait how long could you hold out for? you could end up waiting for something that could be a year away.

yes, i agree, you could end up waiting forever!

Im looking at the sportback in Aruba Blue at the moment, but I must admit I am liking the look of the Black edition now!!

I am a little confused at how the black edition is priced? is there a set amount for the black edition as an option which includes all features?

How much extra is the black edition? as I have already spec'd xenons anyway and I am wondering whether this may be an option to go for.

Sorry for all the questions! Just thought I would get them all in in one go!!!

Cheers

Hi there,

The Black edition is priced at £900 over the S Line and you get Xenon headlights with DRL, MFFBSW and Bose sound system. I think they start at £22,500.

Just to add, this is in my mind, the dealer I am dealing with tells me it wont be at least another 2 years... Not sure whether to believe him but as has been said the A1 and S1 is on its way, 2 smaller hatches at the same time might not be in Audi's mind..

The Black edition is a trim level above S-Line... and is currently priced £925 above its equivilent S-Line Model (although it should be noted that the black edition only comes is a set number of engines)

For that £925 you get:

Xenon Plus Headligjht with LED Day Time Running lights (£545)
Privacy Glass on the rear windows (£325)
The Black Styling package (Black Grill and Number plate surround) (£300)
18 Inch Twin Spoke Titanium wheels (Only Avalible on Black Edition)
Flat Bottomed Multipunction Streering wheel (Only avalible on Black Edition and S3 would cost at least £400 to retrofit)
Piano Black Inlays (No Charge)
BOSE Sound System (£440)

Its worth it if you were concidering a combination of any of the above options but does have some downsides. One as mentioned is the limited number of engines (although technically the range is the better engines perfromance wise) the other and which i found the most annoying was the limited choice of paint colours. Again it should be noted that the black edition comes in only 3 no cost option paint colours (Brilliant Red/Black or Ibis White) and three £500 option colours (Phantom Black, Misano Red and Monza Silver).

Some notes from my experiance of the Black Edition:

Spec the Light and Rain Sensor Pack (£325) and Interior Light Pack (£90) as a must! (these items are "especially" expensive and techincally difficult to retrofit and are worth every penny!) also unless you "specifically" like the Piano Black Inlays choose to change them to Aluminium as a no cost option! (they will be more desirable in the future and far easier to look after)

Hope this help, any more questions feel free to ask!

Thanks fir all the info guys, So as I have already spec'd xenons it should only really cost an extra £380 for black optics, tinted rears, bose, FBMFSW and titanium wheels.

That sounds like a bargain to me!

I already have the interior pack and the light and rain sensor pack spec'd

Do you know if the black edition is available on the 2.0 TDI (140) with the S-Tronic box?

If so, the spec will be:
2.0 TDI Sportback (140) S-Tronic
Black Edition
Light and rain sensor
Cruise Control
Interior light pack
Aluminium inlays

I plan to retrofit RNS-e and my DLO homedock, which I have in my current A3

Is there anything that Im missing out on in your opinion.

Cheers again for all your help
Joel

I can't seem them replacing the 8P soon. It's been around a while, but any replacement would be based on the Mk6 Golf platform, which was designed more to save a few quid on the cost of building a Mk5 Golf, not to improve it... I can see them just facelifting the 8P again in the next few years before there's a new platform to build the 'Mk3' A3 on.

From what I've read the next A3 due in 2011/12 will not be based on the Golf Mk6 platform which as you rightly say was designed to cut the costs of producing the Golf. The new A3 will be the first in the group to use a brand new modular transverse components set (dubbed MQB in Audispeak) which will ultimately used for the Golf and other cars in the VAG range.

As above, I read that the A3 will effectively use the Mk7 Golf platform. The "Mk6" Golf is effectively a facelifted Mk5, unlike its predecessors - making the A3 / Golf Mk5-6 quite aged by the time of their replacement and more like the lifecycle of 1980-90s car models.

The Mk3 A3 will probably be released later in 2011. The 8P is still a big seller for Audi.

Just to add realy. It was a thought in my mind before ordering mine in late Nov. As far as I could find out the new 3 door will be out first, around mid 2011 and other models ( inc a booted model for the yanks !! )_ to follow with S3 being another possable 9 months - year after first launch ( around spring 2012 ). Golf 7 on the 7 platform is in its early test stages now and the new A3 will be based on that. As with all new models, yes it's nice to have the new shape etc but always best to leave a year or so, all the niggles have been ironed out and also deals are easier to come by rather then a brand new model. Audi are to busy this year launching the new A1 S1 and A8.

Yes, thats pretty much my spec, but I kept the black inlays and have the usb port. I've had it nearly three weeks and no regrets yet!

Thank for all the input guys!

Well, its now ordered: A3 140 Stronic Sportback, Black edition, with aluminium inlays, with Cruise, Interior lights, Light and rain sensors.

Audi have done me a good deal, but have been pretty conservative with their PX value so my current A3 is also up for sale privately if anybody is interested

Thanks everyone!!

Interesting that you managed to change the piano inlays to aluminium inlays. WillMac was asking a similar question as the dealer had told him he couldn't do it, but I did when I ordered my S3 BE early December. The December brochure available from Audi allowed this change, but seems their website now has a January 2010 onwards brochure which doesn't allow the inlays to be changed on any variant of the BE.

Good job though, the piano are not my cup of tea either.

When I first ordered the dealer was a little skeptical as to whether this could be done, but after a bit of a push he 'made a phone call' and it turns out that it can be.

I've just ordered a 170 spotback Black and have also had alluminium swap, those black piano finish 'finger print magnets' are a little OTT IMHO but each to their own, I added comfort pack, int light pack, heated seats, Bluetooth and lumbar support, my 56 plate, manual, Blue S-Line Sportback will be for sale begining of April somewhere around £12k, does that sound about right ? It will have around 63k on clock Full Audi service book, mine from new, 4 new tyres in Dec and it is full leather, armrest, lumbar support.

I too asked 3 dealers regarding new A3, earliest endof next year with MAYBE RS3 and special edition to see out this version but other dealers said 18months to 2 yrs.
