HELP.....A3 dsg gearbox problems

can anyone help me with this???

wife just brokedown in our audi a3 2L diesel (170bhp)

the auto greabox "PRNDS" lights are flashing and the gearbox symbol is showing on the dash.

anybody any idea what the problem could be or if anyone has the diagnostic software and local to me (warrington, cheshire) and a bit of festive cheer left.

Could be anything. The flashing PRNDS indicates only that something bad happened. It doesn't say what.
Could just be that the clutch is overheated. If after 10-15 minutes the flashing is still there, you should take the car to a service.
Do not tow it because will further damage the gearbox (at least this is what is written in my car's manual).
 
had it returned home by a breakdown service via greenflag on a flatbed recovery truck.

just tried it around the block, engine symbol still showing on the dash but the PRNDS were not flashing, anyway, it changed up a few times to 3rd gear then without warning the "PRNDS" started again and wouldn't change up but would change down. then stuck in 1st after pulling away again.
 
How come you blokes hasn't have the DSG recalled? Here in the colonies, they recalled 07-10 DSGs due to faulty temp sensor giving false readings, resulting in the flashing PRNDS

VW UK don't recall cars, they just deny there are ever inherent problems in the products, and wait for them to break.

Hello ian the blinking PRNDS appear only when the gearbox enters the safety mode, this can happen due to some several reasons:
- faulty temperature sensor
- very low oil level
- faulty electronic control module
- faulty speed sensor
- faulty rotatyional sensor

If you don't want to bring the car to the audi dealer my advise is to get a vag com and perform a complete check and paste here the results. Also what is the millage of the car and when was the last time when the dsg has been serviced?

the car has a full audi service history so has had the gearbox oil changed 40k, it has now covered 56k and is 3 months out of warranty.

there is a garage near me that is advertising 'audi diagnostics' , i'll give them a buzz and ask them to check it for us.

i'll let you know the out-come.

Gearbox temperature sensor gone faulty.
 
If you can get it VCDS scanned it will help pinpoint the issue.

I had a PRNDS issue but this was due to a failing battery with low voltage playing silly with a gearshift selector sensor.
The car would be flashing PRNDS but I could still drive it and it would change gears perfectly.
It did pop a code in VCDS but cant remember what it was.
Had the code reset and it was all alright until the voltage got low enough not to be able to turn the car starter then I would have to reset the code again.
Finally fixed it with a new battery. The flashing PRNDS worried me as if its mechatronics related could mean £££.
