Afternoon All,
I had a huge detailing session on the car this afternoon and now I have had chance to really look at the car i have found one or two defects...

There are loads of little bubbles on the paint work, only what i can assume is rust from the inside out... There are 4 lumps on the boot, (about 5-10mm circular) two on the rear wing and 3 of the drivers door.

Is this something i can ask for Audi to look at under warranty? I don't know how long the paint warranty is on the A4...

Also... the drivers door seems to have dropped about 3-5mm, is this something i could fix myself, or am i best getting a body shop to look at it?

Cheers
Chris!

I recently noticed some rust bubbles on the roof nr the rain gully, took it to Audi and they didn't want to know said it was too far gone WTF!

I thought they were galvanised and rust only came through because of bad body repairs ?

Ur covered for at least 10 years against rust on the bodywork, unless they can prove it's because of a dodgy repair. If the repair was by an audi approved bodyshop, then it is still covered by the corrosion warranty. Throw the book at them mate.

mine had a 3" rust patch on the roof by the gully. i bought the car for a main dealer through a guy that worked there in the body shop, the car was one they had taken in px. i spoke to them to see if it was coverd and the assessor said it was to far gone and if it had been flagged up earlier then it would get done.
as it happens my mate sorted it and colour coded all the lower gray parts for £150 so im happy with that.
but even with me knowing them there and buying the car from them i could not get them to budge on this.

Well i went to Audi yesterday....

They had a look around it... at first said the panels had been resprayed in the past as they were reading about 115 - 150 micros... however it would seem the whole car was reading the same.. So my paint was put on quite thick for an Audi apparently!!

Got to wait two weeks now for an answer from HQ

Good luck with it chrisash32. Luckily I haven't seen any rust at all on mine yet. Watch it, i'll get home tonight to find an orange car :tumble:

115 to 150 is actually quite thin for audi not thick normally you would be looking somewhere just above 200 microns for an audi

What dualmono21 said, Chris. They're talking BS there I'm afraid. All the Audi's I've worked on (of a similar age to ours..) have been standard ~120 - 160. Then, up and onwards from ~190 if a respray.

Here's a thought, if you go back, ask them to measure the paint on the door column when the doors are opened.. This will give an approx thickness of the cars paint when new.

I had my S3 in to Audi with the 12 year corrosion warranty. Wasn't a bad job, but, I just wished the never valeted it afterwards - it came back a RIGHT state.

i had a nightmare with lancaster audi near old trafford it went on for over 6 months they lost the photos the body shop took then after 2 months told me they had no record of my visit a complete shambles from day one i had rust bubles on my a6 avant roof the body shop took the paint thickness and said it was original with no sign of repair then after getting audi uk involved they asked me to get it re inspected there attitude was disgraceful and after all this audi only offered to pay 70% towards repair so after the body shop said it was original paint work audi must think there car going rusty was 30% my fault ? by the way the 30% they wanted off me was £350.00 audis 12 year anti corrosion warrenty is not worth the paper it is written on

Interesting... My car was looked at by Stockport Audi... However it will be going to the Manchester bodyshop if they decide to do work on it.

I took my 03 A4 Avant to Audi bodyshop (actually part of Gilder Group at that time) in Hull in 2007 for a minor bump from behind by another driver at roundabout. They inspected the car and noticed small blisters on every panel. This was not rust they reassured me, but zinc particles starting to gas. This is caused, apparently, by the panels not being properly washed off after galvanising, and takes about 3 - 4 years to start to manifest. They were absolutely brilliant and arranged for an Audi engineer to inspect. He measured paint thickness to confirm original and agreed that all panels (apart from roof) were affected. Audi paid for full respray at their expense, and a very good job it was.

I was delighted.
