does anyone know anything about the redituning box. is it any good? how much are they new? are they digital or analog?
thanks....

tuning boxes are terrible don't even bother, just get a decent map. But not a chipped uk one.

Thats a sweeping statement if ever there was one!

I bought one second hand it's fine.

I've got a chipped uk map works fine, whats the problem with them? I also had a tuning box on my old B5 and that was very good too.

just an opinion, think im allowed one.

Tuning boxes trick your engine, they modify outgoing and incoming data. So say something gets wet and one of the channels goes wrong, its gonna confuse the hell out of your car.

Chipped UK maps have broken 2 of my friends cars soo far. so im steering clear.

Of course you're allowed an opinion, did anyone say otherwise?

When your opinion is so strong to say something is "terrible" then I think you will find people are interested to how, from your experience they can be so bad.

I hear what you are saying about a tuning box, with proper installation it shouldn't be a problem though. And if the worst happens then five minutes and you can disconnect it and carry on. I know people with installed remaps who have had lots of trouble, and the only going back has been for the tuner to remove the map, not quite so handy.

Can i ask what cars you're friends had remapped? and what went wrong? Not that i'm worried:(

True i had trouble with my custom code map, but in that case they can fiddle etc and get it working, Storm Developments did mine and found out my leon was a one of a kind car with a half pd half non pd engine due to the eu laws for environment effects in 2005.

4 days and she was fine. With a tuning box you can take it off putt a new one on etc but whos to say what damage could be done when it breaks.

Its just something i personaly am not comfortable with.

The cars that i've know to have died were a tdi 110 leon. just blew its turbo asking for too much boost etc.

and recently a mates Golf gti 1.8 20v 180bhp died he said due to map but i have not the fall details from him yet.

I ran a PSI tuning box on both my Tdi A4's for over 25k with no problems what so ever.. handy fitted and I had them on a switch to turn off when the wife was driving as she didn't like all the torque... Infact I know that one of my A4's still has the box fitted and has done over 35k with it on, its mileage is at 110k... both 130 bhps..

thanks for the replies guys, i think the boxes are ok and good value in the fact you can remove and sale but what i wanted to know was about the reditung boxes in particular..
thanks....

I have a tuning box on mine and never had any problems with it.
