My Decatted Milltek exhaust has arrived!

'Not for road use' stamped all over it.
Grow up, for christ's sake.:keule:

 Someone needs a hug.

I agree though, de-catted would be annoying enough for myself driving it about...let alone the general public.

Can't see any point having that on a road car, perhaps the laws are different in SA though?

If the laws are different in SA, I apologise.
However, comments like this, from a UK poster, drive me nuts.

Love the 'Not for road use' when it blatantly is gonna be used for exactly that!! That is gonna pop, bang and flame like a trooper!!

:asskicking:

Been told that decat is much different as with the cat.

since the car is at the middle of the car, inside does feel different but not outside.

Thu i think that doesn't sound too right.

but will be very interest to hear it between the two of them.

as i am thinking getting the decat version too. but abit worry its going to be too much.

Does anyone in this system Decat means Non-resonated (louder) ?????

What i don't get it is.

there is cat back with resonated and non resonated.

but from the pic i can see is only missing the very front cat or if it is a resonated.

then how could the cat back with or without resonated.......

The downpipe is the piece that goes from the turbo to the middle of the car. In the OEM version it comprises the ceramic pre-cat (roughly 2 centimeters after the turbo), the flex, the metallic cat (roughly 50 centimeters after the pre-cat) and a double piping that is meant to reduce (not eliminate) the popping sounds. The Milltek downpipe for road use comprises only the flex and the metallic cat (200 cpsi).

The cat-back part of the exhaust is composed by the center silencer and the final silencer, in the OEM version you halso have the exhaust valve that is eliminated with the Milltek version.
The difference between resonate and non-resonated (the one I have) is that the non resonated, instead of the center silencer, has a straight pipe. Hence the non-resonated version is louder that the resonated one.

Thanks alot for all this information. how you find the non resonated. is it very loud???

and since i am going to make my milltek 4 pipe out. does it matter if later on, there is only one side with the valve???

by any chance you can show me a short clip please just to see how loud is it.

thanks alot.

If you're just cruising around it's not so wild, pleasant pops when you release the gas and nice sound.

If you hammer it gest really violent, especially when the wastegate opens.
My friends love it... and so do I...

I measured the output, I post the noise levels for the non-resonated Milltek, between brackets you find the noise levels for the resonated Milltek.

Standing still and revving to 4200 rpm, at 1 meter from the exhaust you get 90 db (84 db)

From the inside of the car (with closed windows) at 130 kmh you get 77 db (74 db). The max noise inside the car accelerating is 88 db (80 db).

The valve is only on the OEM exhaust, the Milltek does not have it.

No external videos available at the moment, sorry.
You can give a look at this and try to find differences from the inside during a trackday, the first car (camera by hand) is mine with the non-resonated turbo-back Milltek, the second car (camera on tripod) is my friend's with resonated turbo-back Milltek.

Please keep in mind that in my car the camera was hold by hand from the passenger's seat. In my friend's car the camera was mounted on a tripond inside the boot, where the noise is much more...

On this video, at minute 2:45 you can see and hear the pass-by of:
- a grey S3 with stock exhaust (he is the fastest on the track, great experience, D2 coilover, Alcon Brakes and semislicks)
- a black S3 with Milltek turbo-back resonated exhaust and semislicks
- my black S3 with Milltek non-resonated exhaust on Continental tires...

Another pass-by in the same order at 6:45

Thanks alot for all this information. fo sure i am getting the non-resonated one.

and nice video too.

thanks Macs.

Hello
Is it possible to mount the down pipe without removing the propshaft, or do I have to remove it first?
Is it difficult som get acces to all the nuts at the turbo, to remove the "old" downpipe?

The prop has to be moved. It is in the way. mine was not completely taken out, but loosened and moved out of the way.

Thanks.
Does anybody know the torque for the nuts on the Turbo, the bolts to the propshaft, and the clamps on the system?
Do I have to have for ex. Loctite on the bots to the propshaft?
It seems to be tight to get access to the 4th nuts on the turbo?
