Hi everyone,

I recently swapped my old Vectra for an Audi A4 1.8 Turbo 1996 N reg.

It came with a few problems, it feels as though all the power isnt kicking in and it idles, now it does have a dump valve fitted but not even sure if its in the right place?
And I did see that the O2/ Lambda sensor had melted its wire on the exhaust. I have replaced the senor with a brand new one and changed the spark plugs in hope it would sort the problem out, but to no luck!?

Theres also a strange wining noise coming from the rear drivers side of the car, sounds like the petrol pump, maybe? But it even does it when the car is stationary and with no keys in?!!

I am really stuck at this idling problem, I know some people tend to mess around with turbo cars to get the most power out but usually just ends up with idling probs, well in my case anyway! lol

Your help would be much appreciated....

Thanks alot

Idle problems can be caused by a any of the vacuum hoses being split. Also there is a large breather under the intake which can split open. Check them all for signes of perrishing.

The wining noise even when the keys are not in is strange. The central locking pump is at the rear on the drivers side so could be shorting out. Does the car open and close ok?

Hi, yeah the central locking works fine, I will just go and check all the hoses and pipes and get back to you, thanks

Ive just found a blue connector at the back of the engine near the cat not connected to anything, do you know what thats for and is it supposed to be connected and to what? thanks

The 96 only has one sensor in the exhaust i think. Not sure what thats for. If there is a loss of power when dirving it could be the wastegate, my penny from the wastegate was missing. Do you have access to vag-com of someone with it?

whats a vag-com? lol my waste gate seems not to move is that normal?
