A mitsubishi evo 4+ would destroy a honda integra round a track and you wouldn't even need to be that good a driver.

I dissagree...
I had an Integre Type-R and on trackdays I've done the ITR was fractions of a second slower than Evo 4s and 5s...and Impreza STIs etc...
It was quicker than a Carrera 2...

This was in the dry, I admit...on wet trackdays, it was still less than a second - at the absolute worst - slower than the above 4wd cars.

With sticky tyres on, I was lapping Knockhill consistantly quicker than the Imprezas, most of the Evos, Elises etc (one Elise driver pulled off as he couldn't handle the indignity of being passed by an ITR)...I struggled with the 968CS of slicks though!

The ITR is not a particulatly fast car...but it's at home on a track...and it shines.
I would still be quicker rounnd Knockhill in my ITR than any car I've owned since.

For the record, my old Manager was at the same trackdays in his Series 1 996 GT3 - he was 2 seconds a lap faster.

I rest my case, thanks for the back up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/groovy.gif

ok i react my statement,a evo would "just" beat a integra r round a track in the dry,in damp conditions the evo would win easily,in real life driving the evo would destroy a itr.

Granted on a track, but that wasn't the original statement.

I know this. But my original statement, in response to a fwd being destroyed by 4x4, was
''What, even a spoon teg R. Not round a track''

But I still disagree with the twisties comment. I used to own a 270bhp GTiR, I know wot twisties are /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. But I've seen an AE86 Corolla destroy an R34 skyline round the twisties. Called 'touge' in Japan. It had half the power, no turbo and rear wheel drive. A well set up suspension was enough to see off the electronically controlled 4x4 mite of the R34.

I neva discounted the use of RWD, I was arguing for 2 wheel drive V's 4

Hmmmm, that must have been something to see, the R34 drivers face!

Think this is gonna be one of those conclusionless discussions. I just can't see how a front or rear drive car can keep up with a 4WD car, in our crap weather (all the time), round a back road.

Suppose, the best FWD car I have was either my Diahatsu Charade GTti (loved that car) or my old A3T, both of them had full suspension and still can't see them being better than my S3.

Have to say, Glens comparisonn of his Knockhill experiences were well impressive!

Yeah probs left alone now, damn fine discussion though.
I base all what I say on things I've seen. Most of which is japanese. As thats my real passion. I get lots of vids and stuff sent from contacts in Japan, so I've seen some pretty wild races. The best way I can describe it, is if U have ever seen the jap cartoon INITIAL D about mountain racing, then thats wot real 'twisties' are. And thats wot I base my 2 Vs 4 wheel drive arguments on. I've had two GtiRs and loved the chuckability of 4X4 but when U get the kids in Japan with trick suspension on 2 wheel drive stuff stuffing evos and scoobies and skylines on mountain passes its awesome.
