Driving to work this morning, and not even got half way I hit a wheel that was laying in the middle of the road doing about 50, it snapped some sort of steering component which veered me across the other side of the road into a dry stone wall.

Car seems pretty much ok but some suspension and steering rack damage will be foudn for sure.

Bodywork wise the front bumper is knackered and a piece of the wall has put a small dent in the bonnet, I think the wing is pretty much ok though.

I paid Elephant extra for a gaurenteed hire car and they say that everyone on there policy gets a courtesy car from the repair shop, what I have paid extra for is a hire car if mine is written off.
Having spoken to the body shop it sounds like they are in no rush to sort out my car and may not be able to sort me a car out till next week, I have to drive 20 miles to work on Monday and time off is a defo no no as we are already short staffed and one guy has the week booked off already.

Pretty ****** off wiith Elephant right now, oh yeh and I dont have cover to drive any car like I use to have, even though I am fully comp with 3 years no claims.

So pretty mucha ***** day for me, lost 3 years no claims and will probably have to pay £225 in excesses to get my car back from the repairer.
All because someone had what seems to be a poorly maintained trailer on the road.

Mate i feel for ya, theres some right to**ers out there.
Sorry to hear about the car, makes you feel sick when something like that happens.

latest update is £3300 damage
So I should hopefully find out tomorrow wether its written off or not.

2001 facelift S3 with 116k miles on the clock its a close call!

Probably be a write off if the damage is around that figure. They'll probably pay you out around £5,000ish.

with regards to courtesy car - would you be better off buying a cheepy for £500 with some tax on it - could use it as a trade in when you buy your next car (plus the cash if its written off) ?

Sorry to hear that...

...But i wonder how you managed to not see a wheel in th emiddle of the road..Was it after a bend?

I once came around the corner to find a giant hay bale but luckily managed to slow and swerve!

Good luck

How the insurance ran with my bro's s3 was they checked the adverts for a similar S3,they offered him 5k (2000 S3 90k) but he sent them adverts saying six and just below and they gave him 5,750 iirc

3 Reasons

1 - just after a slight bend
2 - was 6:45 and not very light
3 - van coming the other way so the wheel was between him and me as soon as he had passed it I saw it but it was too late by then, I was basicly on top of it by the time i saw it :(

I know they will try and shaft me in that sense but I'll probably have to do the same here thanks for that :)

If I was unscrupolous I would get friend to put adverts in the autotrader overpricing a car of similar spec making sure they were in different regions but we are not that way inclined.

that is superb news.

next time don't drive when your wheely tyred :undwech:

voorhees, you should be glad you live in warwickshire

jokes like that deserve and archie (from rocknrolla) style slap LMAO!

yeh my excess is £225 so £225 I get a full front end respray :p

or perhaps I will have to pay for one wing to be resprayed as well so as it doesnt look silly.

Need to find some lightweight wheels for it now methinks.

Will it not be registered as a CAT D vehicle now?

no thats only if they write it off and you buy it back and repair it.

I thought they only rit off a car when the price of repair exceeded the price of the car, why right it off and pay out 5k when they can repair it for 3k...

Anyway, glad things are moving along alright and the car willbe back on the road...
