hey ive bin un employed for a while now and getting no where, so im thinking of setting up with a mate doing mobile valeting but not sure where to start?? or wether theres a good market out there for it or not?
can any1 help me out thats in the buisness or knows of any good ideas on where to start etc thanks
 
Someone does that around my work - uses a waterless chemical for the cleaning, the skid fits in a van. They go to various companies one day a week. This is Aberdeen, so oil companies with employees with cash. I'd suggest find a large office with a lot of expensive cars in it. Approach the company facilities management department and see if they would be interested in offering this service to the employees. We pay £20 for a car clean, £50 for a valet. A car clean takes about 90 mins for him, a valet about 3 hours.
 
Really depends on which angle you take with car valeting, just general valeting or detailing? I would do some research to see if there is/are many people doing it in the area first before jumping in, as there seems to be quite a few about locally to me all putting leaflets through my door.

hi i used to run my own valeting business its not easy work very weather dependant unless you can get under cover 90% of the time i could not some of the cars i used to do for traders were like a tip on wheels and most of them dont like paying and they expect the cars to look like they have just drove out of the dealers the best business i had was in well to do areas where people have spare cash and are too lazy to do it themselves if you decide to go ahead get yourself a sign written van as most of my work came from people in the road i had done a car in days earlier . if you can get in with the traders thats bread and butter work but you need to get in the prosperous areas then you can start making profit but like i said its not easy
 
what isn't easy? actually finding the work or doing it? ive got a lot more research to do, but its sumthing im looking at. id be looking at gettin a decent size van with water tank, jet wash, generator etc etc and all obvious products, ive seen vans with like have a bulilt in roller car port so cars can be cleaned in wet etc.
 
both i can only speak from my personal experience at first it was a nightmare trying to get business when i set up it was in the last reccesion in the 90,s i got made redundant and used some of the money to set it up the trouble was so did a lot of other people perhaps that was the problem go for it i wish you every success
 
thanks. still need to research alot, ive got 2 be offering a better value service or better quality than the other! are valeters self taught or is there a course u can go on to know exactly what to do etc??
 
There seems to be an ethnic 'hand car wash' on every street corner these days......... So there must be a huge demand to make it worth their while coming all the way over here to wash cars eh...??

That was me being cynical,,,, but it's a valid point......!!

Do your research, but, more importantly, if you do a bad job you won't get repeat business (which will be your lifeblood), and you will ultimately fail.........

PS. If you live near Coventry I'd give you a go.:)
 
i ran a very successful mobile valeting company for several years in the late 90's but i think times may have changed some since then regarding, as mentioned previously, ''ethnic car-washes'' all over the place and a hell of a lot more mobile/static valeters everywhere.

so u wudn't recommend starting up either?
where do u think i should start to look into it at the minute?
i mean getting a van and equipments the easy bit right?
how much on average did u make a week m8 if u dont mind me asking?

What most of us are saying I believe is, you need to do a bit more research into the area before you jump in, unless you are experienced in the field... in which case you are not, as you came on here to ask for advice. I personally think that detailing is the route you should go for, if you want to clean cars for a living, but that take a bit of time a dedication, aswell as ability from the quality of work I've seen good and bad.

As for asking about figures, I suggest you use PM, as many don't like to disclose figures of turnover and profit on a open forum, it's usually information best kept to yourself, any business owner will tell you.

yeah i wudnt of asked but he said mid 90's so thought it would be cool. i no what u mean though. whats detailing then compared? is it just spending more time and effort with better products??

It's hardcore car cleaning, usually paint correction is part of the process, have a look in the detailing forum for more info and work that's been done on some very nice metal.
