Well, I have managed to get a good part exchange on my cabriolet and thinking of changing to a different model/car.

Does anyone have any feedback on the two engines listed above, i.e performance, mpg, cost to run etc. Any comments are welcome even if you've only had experience of the one engine.

I'm also considering an A4 so going to post the same question there.

Cheers guys

Edit - I only do about 8K miles a year

As i drive the older 2.0 tdi (140) today I cannot comment on the newer CR 2.0 tdi, but I guess it's better than the older one.

The 1.8T (160) is a wonderful engine, very responsive and rev-happy, at least in an A3 cab, that's where I tested it this summer. And, it also had an impressive sound to the exhaust - silent at tickover and at low speeds with a nice lower frequency rumbling, put the foot down and you get a big roar, very nice! The car definitely felt quicker (as it also was anyway) and more responsive than my own 140 tdi, but I also saw that it used much more fuel than my tdi (drove it one whole day in Germany including autobahn) - but if you don't do to many miles a year that is no problem.
I tend to drive over 25000 miles (40000km) a year....

That said I love my 140 tdi, I think it has enough punch in it for my car - but, I'm tempted to buy a petrol engine next time.
Nothing beats a responsive, happy revving petrol turbo engine :)
