Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me what I can do to get MP3 playing capability out of the MMI on my 04 A8 TDI 4.0. Can I just somehow change the CD player in the glovebox? but an addon so I can plug in a MP3 player? or am I doomed to only having CD's?

thanks

You can do both, as long as your MMI software is above 3450 then you can swap the CD changer for an MP3 compatible one, but swapping it out will cause the new CD changer to go in to Component Protection (anti theft mode) which will need to be removed by the dealership.

You can also add the Audi Music interface alongside the existing or new CD changer to get Ipod or USB capability for MP3's. Or the Dension gateway 500 which will do similar but doesn't look as good.

Craig,

Had the Gateway 500 fitted today, have a question. In the second link you gave it shows folders of your Ipod, do you only get folder like views ona n Ipod? I have just attached a pen drive and I have to say I dont find it the easiest thing to navigate round. Its not too bad as I probably will only ever use random, but if I do want to find a peticular track it doesnt seem the easiest.
Do you think a software update would change anything? or is this the way it is supposed to show the content anyway?

I also noticed that when I browse around the menus playback stops for a split second everytime it changes screens, is this normal? or could it just be the speed of the drive im using?

Thanks

I've always found the Gateway 500's very poor implementations for Ipod/Mp3/USB, so I don't fit them anymore. I would guess the best thing to do would be to update the MMI and the Dension.

As a matter of interest Craig, where are you based? only asked because I do like the look of your optical parking sensors.. :) and havent seen them anywhere else. Just wondered what the journey would be if I wanted something like that doing.
