my friends got a civic type r and we had a little race (private road of course) and he seemed to keep up rather wel, beat me off the line as i didn't want to dump the clutch, but when i hit turbo in 1st gear we were back even.

i only just started to pull away, my question is does this sound like my cars been remapped?? its a 2000 pre facelift 210. i've been told by the previous owner that it had. but not sure. thought i'd of killed him if it had. he's got a big exhaust on it but i didn't think it made that much difference.

whats your opinion on this?? and has anyone else raced one??

dom

oh and its a 2003 civic type r. not a new one

i dont think its been remapped to be honest, i can pretty much leave the type-r for dead.

unless the type r is remapped aswell you should leave it far behind.

bit weird this cos i had a play the other day around 40-50....waiting for car to move from the front of him, he caught me off boost and pulled a car length...i just couldnt get it back - and im mapped

he must of been mapped to..unless there light cars.

Civic type R will give a mapped a S3 a very hard time!!

I know this have experiened it and my type R has left my mates mapped S3 numerous amount of times, but not in the wet!! lol :p

before i got my s4 265bhp remapped i had a couple of encounters with the new shape civic type r and although i did pull away from it easy enough in 3rd gear onwards i was surprised how quick they are but they are quite light cars compared to very comfy luxurious audis with tons of leather and proper sound insulation...after the remap i'm now leaving evo 9's and 10's behind with their daft shark fins and dustbin exhausts

no your not :p

the S3 mapped is defo a quicker car....but you have to know how to drive it and have 'right' conditions (on boost support!!) otherwise the CTR will just do what happend to me, pull a lead and then your fecked...

moral of the story, dont 'go' unless you are prepared in theright gear at the right speed - otherwise be prepared for a neck and neck

Ha, my mates got 3 civic type r's (trader) and straight line ive beaten him every time, The problem arises when you get to corners and get your ars spanked!! lol. Awesome handling machines!!

Oh and just to mix it up abit, the same mate let me drive his clio 197 (new one) and he rekons the handling in thats even better than the civic... it just felt so sluggish in a straight line :(

just before i bought my s3 2 months ago i was hellbent on buying a civic type r

But i was put off buy a few things

1. Interior build quality. is Crap and not a patch on the AUDI S3
2. Every Chav/Boyracer under the sun has one/ the S3 is much more Classy
3. Price. i only had a £5000 max budget and i found shed loads of CAT D damaged
Type r's for sale.

So i say don't Fret about racing this and racing that.. there are always "will my car beat this Car" threads.

The mk1 mk2 S3 is a Future Cult classic. like the MK1 golf GTI.

Just Enjoy Driving a better built / Qaulity motor with classy looks and great performance.

Really? I've got to admit that I don't know much about your car - but I just can't see an s4 coming close to leaving an evo 9 or 10 behind.

2.7 30v V6 Bi-Turbo....Remap gets them to around 315bhp and a more than that in torque no doubt so I wouldnt be suprised.

Evo 9 and 10 are overratedddd! Id rather have an S4 even if it was slower.

I stand corrected. That's some serious power!
Although I have to admit, Hodge, I can't agree that they're overrated. Despite it's chavvy (I'm a SAfrican, so excuse me if I'm using it incorrectly:) ) image, there really isn't anything that feels quite like driving an evo.

i was very surprised too. before i got the remap it was dead even with an evo 10 fq320 on a dual carriage way with big roundabouts and after a big bang the evo let out a massive black cloud and slowed very quickly.and last week the evo 9 after my remapping i pulled a cars length every second i would say. i've got a turbosmart boost management system running 18psi peak producing about 330bhp and 380lbft/510nm of torque and go from 0-120mph in 14 seconds which i think is quite good but the lad that done my remap is one of the best in the business

Mark Hardy from stokesley, north yorkshire his business is called Automark i've compared my car against videos of so called 400bhp S4's and i'm slightly quicker and only a second slower to 120 than a 550bhp s4 so i would reccomend anyone looking for a proper custom remap in the northeast to pay him a visit.

i couldnt be further away !
nightmare....he had my car for 3 days making sure he gets it absolutley spot on tuning it on the road not dyno's he also changed my maf sensor and my 2 divertor valves, its such a smooth remap too you get a shock when you see the speedo flying round and nearly caught me out 2 mins after picking it up..

my mate has the rs4 2.7 bi turbo 375 bhp standard and has now had that all mapped up they have so much power evo's cant live with it and there got so much comfort what a car

yeah they're awesome the rs4 380bhp there's not much in it between mine and a standard rs4 now i'm tuned up 0.2 quicker to 60mph 4.7 v's 4.9ish seconds for me i got almost the same torque but 50bhp less although an s4 saloon is slightly lighter than the avant rs4 and its heavier recaro seats and extra glass and bodywork i would have thought.

I had a play with a black one the other day, I stopped at lights and he was rolling up on my inside, lights changed and away he went, happy to report, i blew him away, he tried again later on but he was mullered.

I had a Zafira GSI and used to beat them on the straight, although it had 300hp.

Meant to say , they are quick and nimble, i wouldnt mind having a try of one.

me too, not many normal people know about the s4's with it blending in very well and the s4 engraved so small on the badge that you get a lot of people thinking they can beat me, i love to let impreza wrx sti's get along side me then nail it they get such a shock thinking they're the quickest thing on the road and them rx8's they're proper slow, But beware the new civic type r has the ability to catch you with your pants down if you dont give them the respect they deserve as a quick car,i wouldnt want to own one tho they're minging

how much was it.. if you dont mind me asking, ive been quoted £500, so if its cheaper i can drive up.

he usually charges around £380 if you ask nicely. also a lad from section5 vw forum has his own company called big fish tuning and is offering custom remaps on the 1.8t for £250 to people reccomended from there its a friend of a friend and he has done a few of my mates golf gti's with excellent feedback i cant find his number but email him on this address sales@bigfishtuning.co.uk

Different with me though... hehehe... i pulled about 4-5 car lenghts on a 2004 ctr with induction n exhaust.

Mines an amd remap i was shocked and so was he.

that isnt out of the realms of possibility mate...... just that there are a few scenarios where even in a straight line you will struggle purely cos they dont have a lag/heat soak problem like your likely to have

A lot will depend on the driver.

I have been the passenger in a 2.0 8 valve M reg Astra (with a crazy driver), and it wiped the floor with a CTR...Its all about the dirver in most casses when cars are evenly matched.

Its supprising what some cars can do with the right person behind the wheel :scared2:

Aint that the truth, stick 5 10 people on a go-kart track in identical karts and see the gaps start.

I could stick my mum in a Merc SLR and I'd still beat here :lmfao:

your not wrong there, a mate of mine would beat me if he was in a 1.4 fiesta he's absolutey awesome and fearless behind the wheel he was a "driver" for a gang of robbers in the 80's+90's and a bit of a rally driver too so a lot depends on the driver especially when evenly matched, i lost count of how many faster cars i used to beat in my mk2 golf gti's

back to the Civic Type R though, ****** capable cars. When they first came out we used to have them as test cars as we used to do parts for Honda. They're a right hooligan but dreadful in the wet....cant get the power down.

I nearly got one instead of my A3 but it was just too full on for a daily car for me. Yes they're great when you're in the mood for it but when you just want to cruise home after a long day they're hard work IMO. Plus the interior is REALLY low rent.

The new ones though, they are rather tasty :)

I sometimes wish I'd of bought a CTR before I bought the S3, would be more fun I'm sure, however as I've already got the S3 I couldn't bring myself to Sell it and buy what I consider a step backwards...pity really, my mate had a brand new accord and that was a lovely car to drive, nice gear box and steering feel...I suppose the biggest thing stopping me from ever buying a CTR is the crappy interior, it looks nasty compared to what I have now...

I prefer the previous generation Type R too !! Don't like the new one...

Don't forget that driver weight makes a massive difference

I used to have a CTR and found it great fun...Until a mapped S3 blew me away!

Straight line a mapped S3 is by far the faster car. Any N/A car with abit of power can catch you out though.

Had abit of fun with a z3 2.8 tonight. Was impressed with its initial 'go' but was no match for the S3 once moving and especially out of corners. To be honest i was all over himwith lots to spare!
