You shouldn't drive the car hard for the last few miles as it helps the engine componants cool down to a much lower and even temp. Its kinder for the componants and the oil and will also help to stop the oil breaking down when its stuck in a redhot turbo and not being pumped. Normally 3-4 miles off boost should be enough or leave it ticking over for a minute or two before turning the engine off. Same at the start of the journey let the engine fully warm up before giving it beans, the water warms up really quickly but oil will take 10-15 miles to get up to temp and offer full protection.

My observation on maps is to get it done at one of the car shows. IIRC* Custom Code (or was it REVO) were doing a 20% discount at GTI - obviously travelling there/entry would have to be factored in, but still much cheaper.

I do remember for sure that REVO were throwing in the Select switch for silly money.

*Please someone clarify if they can remember the exact discounts/offers, my memory is pap. :Flush:

At the GTi international weekend, Revo were offering 20% discount and free select switch. Not sure what discount (if any) Custom code offered.

Thanks mate, all that sun must have fried my brain cell. :icon_thumright:

It's the same old problem mate, one person says this another says that...
I have heard that the REVO is aggresive and the bluefin progressive. I have a TDi it's not a quattro so I'm not sure the REVO map would suit my car as it rains three quarters of the time over here anyway. Essentially I just want the car to be a bit more eager and responsive across all revs.

Maybe what I read about REVO's TDi map being agressive is ********, and maybe it will not screw over my clutch, but it still £170 more than a very close competitors - custom code, how does this compare to the REVO map for performance? (if you are aware). Thanks for the heads up on the bluefin. I will look for that post

I've no experience with remaps for diesels, so I cant comment whether REVO produce 'aggressive' power delivery. I think most tuning company's can/will adjust generic maps to suit your requirements. I know Revo can alter boost, timing & fuel with the select plus switch.
NB - If you do find Iggu's remap thread, his graphs and figures relate to 8P S3 so they may not entirely extrapolate for diesel engines.
My mate is a good example - he has golf edition 30 DSG and considered REVO remap (ed 30 and S3 have similar engine) but wasnt 100% convinced that the DSG components could handle the extra torque.

I think someones opinion about remap performance is too subjective. Dyno figures with graphs are probably a better indicator but you also have to factor the 'dyno lottery' and dont get too carried away with the headline figures.

From what I've heard and read, most S3 owners have opted for Revo or GIAC. Not sure what others have gone for. Custom Code, APR, Superchips are all 'big name' players for remapping engines...

Good luck with your decison...whatever you choose you'll end up with better performance compared to standard

.

Yeah, we can all blame the sun!! But in your case, you could also blame low blood sugars affecting your memory

Hi Guys
APR remaps are not known to be the cheapest , bust as we all know , not everything that is cheap is the best
I am not saying that APR is the best , but it certainly is nice and smooth

APR based in America have Bosch technicians working for them
This means that they have the ability to do switching via the cruise control , the only manufacturer of remaps that can do this with an OEM part

Also with APR , there are other options that you can get with them , and we also have an offer on now with them

They have different RON fuel options
Fault code errase
Another option they have for the majority of the cars is anti theft option
This means that even if someone has your keys , the car can still not be moved
With the problem we have at the moment with people breaking in to steal keys , this would mean that your car is still safe

APR do alot of research in to the remaps and even have their own test track , such is the amount of research that they do
This means that you can be assured that this remap has been tested to the best of APR`s and Bosch`s ability

I hope that helps?
Sarah

If you do a search on username 'Iggu' (8P S3) you'll find he initially had the bluefin map and changed onto revo. I've seen torque/bhp graphs comparing the performance from both products on his car - revo product was far superior!
IIRC 'Iggu' had high praise for Superchips and their after sales service (think he'd used them on previous vehicles) BUT since having the revo map installed, he wouldnt dream of going back to the Bluefin unit (superchips)
Same old cliche 'you get what you pay for'

You have a good memory Yung **** - spot on there in everything you say. And its an S3 I have - I have no knowledge of remaps for diesels or 2.0T. Here's my original write-up http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=60133&highlight=milltek+revo+rs3

I will look for that post

Saved you a search mate ...
