i curently own a 2001 a4 1.8t non quattro...and im considering selling it and buying a b5 s4 quattro. is it worth it? keep in mind that i do plan on moding it in every aspect of performance. is it worth it or should i just use all the money on my current car? thanks a bunch

clearly go for the s4 quattro, the amount of work you would have to put into the 1.8t to equal the s4 isnt in my mind worth it if you have the a chance to get a s4, plus the s4 is a very good base to start out on to do any type of performance upgrades.

should i just wait for newer cooler cars to come out?...also how do you guys think the b6 s4 matches up to the b5..considering its heavy as hell because of the v8?

damn. tough decision...gotta put more thought into it.... do i want to be quick or fast...BOTH. bi turbo = quick.... V8= fast. id prolly go for the b5 .. i kinda like the styling better. plus the tag "bi-turbo" is just TOO sexy. the question is if the styling of the b5 is going to last.

do you think it was worth it...? but my real question is: is there anyway to just ship and rs4 motor and plop it into the s4 ...so taht we can truly call it an rs4? i mean... bolting on rs4 turbos is only so good... how about the real deal with rs4 blocks pistons etc.

Even better... if you could find a nice RS4 engine... then most of your work will be done! But the differences will be bigger cams, modified K04 turbos, better DV's...

It should fit. But I prefer that you get a professional opinion. When I installed the extras on my car, the intercoolers were bigger...therefore I had to "slightly" strectch the bumper to the outside in order for it to fit. I aslo had to cut a piece of that plastic under the engine in order for the hoses between the turbos and intrecoolers to pass! other than that, it shouldn't be a problem that can't be resolved!

Recently moved from a 2.8Q to a B5 S4 Myself a month ago, great move, nothing wrong with the 2.8 by any means, it's just that the S4 is in many ways a completely different animal, particularly in the areas of handling and braking, my 2.8 brakes were never much to write home about.
My 2.8 had Audi sport suspension package from new, but the S4 is superior in all aspects except ride quality, which can be a little choppy at times

I suspect that the 1.8T B6 will be similar in feel to your 2.8, but with a much more upgradable engine

S4 is now AMD'd and milltek'd, instant hop to 320hp now want more though, and with regards to fuel consumption my S4 is no worse than the 2.8 on run, but far better round town, i guess it does'nt need to work as hard, but run them turbo's hard and it drains, still everything has a price.

Thats Exactly what I am looking into at the moment, although cost is high, and sort of points me in direction of an RS4, although I dislike "estate's" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Have you gone the K16 wheel route? I'm thinking about getting this done to my K04's along with a rebuild and zero clearancing with some other mods to clear 500.

What is the spec of your units G?

My K04s are standard RS4 parts and my clutch and gearbox are intact....

Have a look at this

http://www.letstorquebhp.com/

My cars figures are

Power at Flywheel (BHP) 395
Weight without Driver (KG) 1510
Drive Type 4 Wheel Drive (4WD)
Power To Weight Ratio (BHP/Ton) 265.79
0-60mph (Secs) 3.93
0-100mph (Secs) 9.76
60-100mph (Secs) 5.83
Quarter Mile (Secs) 12.53 @ 113.30 MPH
Drag Quarter Mile (Secs) 12.13 @ 117.06 MPH

All in theory of course....

Compare the 60-100 time with a 1.8T Quattro B5 A4 which does 60-100 in 15 secs....

"Compare the 60-100 time with a 1.8T Quattro B5 A4 which does 60-100 in 15 secs.... "
Yeah right! Think that particular car needs to have its turbo put back on.
I assume you mean 0-100mph in 15secs

I don't have measured figures but Evo mag say that the 0-60 is 8.9 secs for the current A4 1.8T sport. The web site I mention lists the Front wheel drive 1.8T as

Audi A4 1.8T Sport (B6)
Power at Flywheel (BHP) 163
Weight without Driver (KG) 1375
Drive Type Front Wheel Drive (FWD)
Power To Weight Ratio (BHP/Ton) 120.45
0-60mph (Secs) 8.68
0-100mph (Secs) 25.10
60-100mph (Secs) 16.42
Quarter Mile (Secs) 17.12 @ 82.58 MPH
Drag Quarter Mile (Secs) 16.92 @ 83.96 MPH

B5 Quattro Version

Power at Flywheel (BHP) 180
Weight without Driver (KG) 1380
Drive Type 4 Wheel Drive (4WD)
Power To Weight Ratio (BHP/Ton) 132.53
0-60mph (Secs) 7.38
0-100mph (Secs) 22.70
60-100mph (Secs) 15.33
Quarter Mile (Secs) 16.20 @ 84.46 MPH
Drag Quarter Mile (Secs) 15.80 @ 86.90 MPH

If you take the figures from the Audi web site for the new A4 2.0T FSi Quattro you would get

Power at Flywheel (BHP) 200
Weight without Driver (KG) 1472
Drive Type 4 Wheel Drive (4WD)
Power To Weight Ratio (BHP/Ton) 138.05
0-60mph (Secs) 7.09
0-100mph (Secs) 21.21
60-100mph (Secs) 14.12
Quarter Mile (Secs) 15.89 @ 86.54 MPH
Drag Quarter Mile (Secs) 15.49 @ 89.06 MPH

and Audi quote 7.2 0-60......

So I would suggest that 15 secs is about right 60-100 for a unmodified 1.8T Quattro.

Honestly don't know about the K16 route, but I do know that my turbos are K04 that Sportec modified from the inside.

When you say K16, are they different than K04? Or are they modified K04's????

K04 centre section and exhaust housing, milled out compressor housing with a K16 comp wheel. It gives more CFM at high RPM, albeit at the expense of a little low end response. The turbo's will support 500+

Ooo I have a 2.8q and it bores me! Am looking into the whole S4 thing, but very tempted by the 1.8T B6... newer, easier on juice and cheaper to mod...

Similar dilema! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I just went from a 2.6 quattro B5 to a 1.8T B6 quattro and its much more fun Zero, im only up the road in WSM if every you fancy a test drive /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I do miss the Smooth V6 though, such a quiet engine

Well I figure that this is what I have cause I could reach over the 500 mark... right about now it's so close that I could savore it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You might have, or Sportec may use their own turbo, either triple K or IHI. Either way sounds like you've got a nice spec under the hood, I'm 50 off 500 but the cost to reach that magic number is about as much again as what I have spent to reach 450!

Tell me about it!!! It cost me an arm and a leg to get to 470bhp... I might get some more because I'm getting a remap soon on the dyno. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
