Panel Gaps

Hi Guys,

Quick question about panel gaps on your A4 B7s. If you have a look at the pic attached, you'll see that there is a large panel gap below the bonnet. It's been like this since I bought it a few months ago and I've seen it on a few others. I don'tbelieve it's supposed to be like that?

Any comments?

My 'old' A4 (in the pics thread) was exactly the same as this and I too thought it should'nt be like that. Then I did a search and saw quite a few others looking exactly the same. I think it is adjustable (rubber bump stops under the bonnet?) and does fetch it nearer to the grill slightly but I dont think you''l get it flush. HTH

I would agree with the previous post and see if you can wind the stops down a bit to sort it out :)

Looks like I'll be able to get this gap closed up when she's at the dealers.... Some plonk in a delivery truck decided to give her a kiss while I was at work :crying:

Ah thats a kick in the balls!Why can't people watch where thay are reversing?! Is there any paint damage? Maybe a dents away guy could help? I hope the delivery guy is paying up!

Off topic: Are you from Ireland by any chance?
 
:sadlike: ouch, bonnet troubles seem insignificant now.......but regarding the bonnet level adjustment you will be limited by the hight of the wings particularly the front corners by the headlights. You can set the inner two cushions lower than the outer two to allow the bonnet to flex a little onto them and adjust/shorten the central spring buffer to reduce the gap...

Cheers guys. If the body shop doesn't sort out the gap thn I'll try that.

Quick question - am I better off getting the panel replaced rather than repaired? I dont like the idea of them using filler anywhere & if it's not going to cose me anything, should I push for a replacement panel?

I don't know anything about panel repair, but since it wasn't your fault ask the body shop what they are going to do and you can decide then?

Im from dundalk, a bit far away. Are you on http://vagdrivers.net/forums/index.php? Its an irish vw/audi/seat/skoda website not too much action on the audi front though but its a bit of craic.
 
I've noticed a similar panel gap to the one in your first photo on my own B7 -- also note the slight gap between the bonnet and the bumper pieces, between the grille and the headlight -- but after checking with Carcheck my car had not previously had an accident.

Something else I noticed too, and I've wondered whether this was normal or not: the chrome trim around the rear window (behind the b-pillar) seems like an inexact fit for the body piece, at least compared with other cars that I've owned before. My car is what's known in North America as a "2005.5", because officially the 2005 Audi A4 was the B6 model and it was switched to B7 in the middle of the car year, so I'd expect that my car is similar to yours.
 
There's actually an adjustment there to lift the bumper and grill. It's a torx head screw located through the hole in the middle of the photo below. My adjustment's bottomed out and I need to take off the bumper to sort it out but maybe you might be luckier?

I've noticed what you mean about the chrome on the rear window. It's not great but nowhere near as annoying as the front - it's all i see when i look out the front window of my house :keule:

Seem to remember that adjusts in and out rather than up and down??
 
No, the screw that's visble allows you to loosen it and move the bumper in and out, the adjuster throught the other hold is defo for adjustment up and down.
 
I noticed my gap was like the first picture after the dealer had checked the oil pump which required removal of the front bumper. They readjusted it for me back to proper fit after i pointed it out .
 
Thanks for creating this post! It's really informative that we get idea on how to deal with this kind of business. This gives an idea on how to make business in a better way and makes a better strategy in order to get more profits and avoid losing money.
