Help!!
On Friday 13th March some halfwit wasn't paying attention and ran into the back of my beloved Golf GTI Edition 30 - which has now been classified as a write off. I've been eyeing up S3's for the last couple of weeks and will hopefully get one ordered in the next couple of weeks when I get my insurance settlement.

For the last few weeks I've been debating about colours - trying to choose between Ibis White or Sprint Blue... but now I think I've settled on good old silver - with either titanium or black wheels. I had my heart set on white, but I think it'll be too much hard work to keep - and now I live in a flat I don't have access to a hose for cleaning as regularly as I used to! A trip to my mums every 2 weeks is the best I can do! I like the blue, but I don't think it'll go so well with the dark wheels... so silver is a good compromise! It'll look good with the dark wheels and is easier to keep than white!!

But which wheels?!
I've now got a few sets in mind, but am unsure which to go for an what size? I'm thinking if I'm going to fork out cash for wheels, I might as well go up an inch to 19's... but will 19 x 8.5 be ok with standard suspension without rubbing?

My choices are:
BBS CH Black Edition:

MTM Bimoto Titanium:

Velocity Motoring VMR710 (titanium OR black?):

OZ Ultraleggera (black or graphite):

They're all pretty much the same sort of price - in the £2k with good tyres price range - although the OZ's would be a few hundred cheaper I think. Having said that I haven't made any calls to negotiate tyre packages yet, as I want to decide which ones I actually want first!

I've seen a silver S3 on Autotrader with the MTM's which I think look brilliant - but I haven't seen a silver car with any of the others on.

Please help as I'm really struggling to pick... and could do with some second, third and fourth opinions!!!

I'd love to see an S3 with these on, Old Skool Compomotive MO's They look good on everything! Even this MG Rover thing. Look best on on an Escort Cossie in white.

OK... so no one likes the VRM's - thats me down to 3 now!

I quite like the 6 spoke Compomotives - but they're only available in 18's. I'm not sure how they'd look on an S3 either? The Speedlines look decent, but I think they're more suited to Subarus etc?

I know the MTM's look nice because there is a pic of the car I want with them on! The downside is that the MTM's are probably the most expensive out of all the ones I posted!

The BBS are a classic, and I've seen a few pics on white S3's which look amazing. The difference between white and silver isn't much - so they should still look great.

The OZ's are nice, but I can't help thinking that the spokes are too thin!

I'm 32 this year so I don't want a boy racer looking car! I'm trying to make it look classy, but still quite subtle - which is why I like the MTM's so much. They almost look like they should be OEM.

I just wish there were some photos of a silver car with these wheels on them so I could get a good idea of what they'd actually look like.

From BBS there are a few.

CH either black or silver 8x19 ET50mm.
CK silver, antracite and polished finish 8x19 ET44mm.

All in stock for next day delivery/collection.

MTM`s are a nice wheel good caliper space, bit heavy and they buckle easy.

MTM's man, they just look better overall, but as warned by PW about weight & buckles but tbh not heard anyone else mention, but then again for the cost not many have huh & PW know better than me or others about wheels.

I love the old Compomotove MO's but dont know what they would look like on the S3.

I'd probably go for the BBS's to be honest - I know they are common on S3's but suit the car so well and just finish it off nicely.

If they're so common, then how come I can't find any pics?!

Phil - the black CH's have the replaceable rim protectors... how easy are they to replace, and how much do they cost? It might be worth me going for CH's for that reason alone if I'm going to let my g/f drive it!!!!

What sort of weight difference am I looking at between the MTM's and the CH's? I know the OZ's are VERY light - but thats probably as they have tiny thin spokes!!!

I had CH's (VW Pescaras same thing really) on my Edition 30 and they were a great quality wheel - but I never had the 'wow' factor looking at them. Perhaps thats just because they were the standard wheels? I'd hope if I was to spend approx £2k on wheels then they'd give me a big smile!

there not exactly the same the vw prescaras look whey naffer than proper chs wich have more curve and motorsport around the wheels you would have the wow factor with ch although i think silver with atherites cks in 19 would look the best like matt andrews....

MTM's but I'm biased:laugh:

Do like CH's though, had them on my ED30

The rim protectors are easy to replace they just press onto the rim edge, they cost £35+vat ea.
The BBS rims are around the 11kgs ea.

From memory the MTMs are 15kg ea.
Some of the RS4/RS6 owners have had some issues to the wheels buckling. Best to look on audisrs.com and rs246 for examples.

The VW rims on your E30 are produced by BBS for VW, made to different spec to the aftermarket BBS CH.

I have both the CH and the CK in stock in the showroom for you to have a look at.

Still love the look of the CH's. Seen an especially nice looking set in smoked chrome which IMO looks the dogs. MTM's are also very nice

They all look super but except for the Ultra Leggeras, all are over 25 pounds each in weight. Especially the MTMs.. they are close to 30 pounds and are SUPER HEAVY despite being the best looking set IMO.

I have a little story to tell about wheel weights. I originally went for RS4 Reps which weighted in at 22 pounds (18x8). I didnt like the look of the Ultra leggeras but have come across a cheap used set and tried them on.... They really make the car feel like I have 20nm more torque (just by my impression) !! The ultra Leggeras are at 17lbs each and the 5 lbs really made the difference.

I still didnt like the look so I sold it and bought OZ Palladios TODAY which weighted in at 25.5 lbs.... I hated every minuit of it!! The car felt slower and less responsive. The money that I blew on modding the engine all went down the drain!! I am selling these as we speak.... Going for Yokohama Advan wheels.. they are 16.5lbs each!!

Dont make the same stupid mistake I made!! Watch your weight and never go above 22 lbs IMO...

I'm up in Aberdeen... so its a bit too far to come for a look!!

The CK's look good in the picture above - but I think they need to be a bit darker. I realise they're probably the same colour as the MTM's - but there is more of them on display!

I'm still not sure about the black CH's as I haven't seen them on a silver car. I wish someone had a decent side on photo of a car with them, and I could photoshop them onto the one I posted above with MTM's.

I'm starting to wonder about ordering the car in white again as paulmc's S3 with black CH's looks amazing. But then I fear all the A3 Black Editions that are around just now which have a similar white / black look... and also the hassle of trying to keep it clean! Also... white is the 'in' colour just now - will it still be in a couple of years when trying to sell?

Silver would be ideal - but then is it last years colour... as there aren't nearly as many silver NEW cars going about! At least its easy to keep!

The OZ's are maybe the lightest, but I think they're my least favourite of the BBS / MTM's / OZ's. I think thats probably because I've never seen them on an S3 / A3 - so I'm finding it hard to visualise them.
I'll be putting the wheels on from day 1 - so I'm not going to notice any difference in performance if they're lighter or heavier than the stock wheels. I'm unlikely to be doing any mods apart from retrofitting an RNS-E and an iPod adapter - perhaps a remap a few years down the line (if I haven't changed cars by then) - so a fractionally faster 0-60 time doesn't really worry me too much.

The Black Edition CH's are porn.

I've seen the silver S3's you are on about with the MTMs on autotrader and they do look well. Dont think you'd go wrong with either of those 2!

Someone had a pic of the OZ's on a yellow S3 (I think) and it looked rubbish...

Its a shame they don't make these KEI Racing Force 10's in a 19" - as they look very similar to the MTM's and at less than half the price!!

Quite like these Borbet LV5's too - but they're only available in an 18". Again, a bargain compared to the CH's or MTM's! Nice meaty spokes!!

That silver S3 with MTM's is at a local garage and i'm not too keen looks abit drug dealer to me....

Maybe its the window tints.......
