Hi All i have just got my new 09 black edition with the ipod dock in the glove box it. The slides that they supply are for the old ipod nano and my 4th gen nano wont fit so it is wobbling around on its base also the nano wont charge so just goes flat But at least it plays ok ! Spoke to audi customer service and they just said there is nothing we can do take it up with your dealer we dont even know anything about it !! great service there then !! any one else in the same boat ?? if i had a pound for the amount of times customer service have said id have 3 lol the twits but id take it back to your dealer and just get the cable fitted i have the cable in mine its fine ......
TBH have you tested an older ipod to make sure its not faulty 1st as they shouldnt have changed the pins really on the bottom of the ipod for charging as that would mean all pre ipod accessories wouldnt neccessarily work, apple are stigma for apple branded goods but they're not that anal for sure.

My 4th gen nano fits fine tbh and I've still got the slide that worked well with my 1st gen touch. That charged when docked but my nano doesn't. It doesn't charge when on my Bose Soundock in the house either so just assumed in was the ipod and not the car.
Apple have changed the charging pins, they swapped to new ones ages ago, but the latest range of iPods do not support the original ones any more. Same problem with my iphone 3G with my Sony in the Golf, but my old Ipod nano was fine. Known problem I'm afraid:

. There is an adaptor available which is small and sits between the dock and the iPod to allow charging.

Yes they should indeed be making people aware, but on the flip side if the kit states which ipods it works with then guess they can say we did advise
It really is the manufacturers like Audi at fault, but they are certainly not the only ones! Apple specs for the last 3 generations of iPods have used the new pinout, but have also supported the old ones for backward compatibility. Apple have done as they promised and dropped the backward compatibility which should only break accessories a good few years old!!
