How do you get a quick run in the standard 225 S3, be it off the line, 0-100 etc? I have noted that when you boot it in 1st gear, you can take it near the red-line but then through the gears, the car seems to run out of steam as you approach the line and you feel a natural urge to change up. Any tips on how to get the best run and where to change up in each gear? Thanks.

It's widely suggested that if you want a good launch from stop, disengage traction control, rev to about 4 / 5'000rpm and dump the clutch.

Not something I've tried, as the strain on the clutch can't do the car much good, but it seems to work!

I tend to agree with you about the car running out of steam after about 5'000rpm from 3rd onwards. I'm thinking about getting mine re-mapped very soon by Oettinger, which 'should' solve the issue, as well as other standard S3 issues /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers Noodle. Any more suggestions would be welcomed.

What petrol do you use, My S3 drinks nothing but Shell Optimax and doesn't appear to run out of steam near the redline at all. maybe it might in 4th, but I've never really tried redlined it in 4th before.

Nothing but Optimax. I say running out of steam, I can redline it throughout the gears without any problems, and it is still very fast... I just wondered whether an earlier change may be better (???).

The torque in the S3 is generally at peak up till about 4500rpm, and then you should change. Ideally for acceleration keep on accelerating between 2500 to about 4500 rpm and before you know it your going much faster that you thought.

On start, if you do go to the 4500 mark your definelty going to do some damage to your clutch. I guess the key for the s£ is turn off esp and get in that 3rd gear ASAP and your off.

Optimax does make a significant difference.

A guide to a 14 sec 1/4mile as follows:

1) 5K Dump the clutch
2) 6250 - 6500rpm change

I've done 55k now, same clutch and been at the 1/4 mile loads of times. You don't even smell the clutch. As for changing gear at 4500rpm for best results, I've never heard anything more rediculous. Maybe the best results if you drive a Taxi and want to save fuel.

Take it to over 6,000rpm on the 1/4 mile definitely!

I have tried both & recorded 15.2 changing over 6,000 & only 15.7 changing at 5,000. Also had 5mph slower across the line!

Only been twice & a 15.2 on my 3rd go ever wasn't too bad, but definitely take it higher to get the best results!!

Obiviously you probably don't have any pulling power after about 5K, so you get slow time and get /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/[censored].gif on by other, better drivers!!!!
